  1. Ouch, that can't be lekker. Where is the stress fracture - in the foot? Good luck with the recovery. Don't know what I'd do without my outdoor escape and endorphin!
  2. Haha, no, fortunately it does not work that way! You park at the finish venue, then they take you UP by bus to start the run. Basically drop you in the "Neck" at Du Toitskloof and it's a short walk down to the start. And then you run "down" - but it ain't all downhill from there! Before the Goat Run I managed to convince myself it's a good idea to go and do that Sanlam Cape Town Marathon's Trail run. Ambition and capabilities got a bit disjointed... Then again, the same happened when I entered myself into my first marathon (Winelands) last week. Still don't know what went on upstairs whilst my fingers were entering.
  3. Those who were also there will most likely agree - this was an awesome run! (If you don't I'd like to know why...) Great views, interesting format and my buddy and I agreed that it felt like much more elevation than what was stated, but maybe it was just the timing and the slopes of the elevation. As much as I enjoyed the downhills in the beginning, towards the end I had a (very) near fall and was tired, so then I started doubting - and then the downhills got a bit mislik. And worst was running overly cautious and telling yourself that you're just causing problems for yourself now, but you can't find the "Commit" gear... Well organised, brilliantly marked, superb views and I loved running through the protea plantation - all-round a great experience! My legs are still complaining, but that's doing nothing to spoil the smile inside.
  4. ..and now we have to start hearing he's (hahahaha) an old-school racer! Laughed myself silly when I read the heading... Drivers nowadays have no clue what old-school is. BTW - he won his first cart championship with #44, if I have it correctly. From there the significance.
  5. Anybody joining me in this bit of fun tomorrow? Green Forrest run in Hawekwa... Looks like great fun! http://raceinterface.co.za/green-forest-run-2-paarl/
  6. I'm not a running expert, but I use the max I've obtained as my HR Max. (Excluding obvious spikes due to some sort of interference!) I don't know what the HR Reserve definition is you've got, but Jeroen told me that the definition of HR Reserve is HR Max - HR Resting. And from there use Karvonen for zones.
  7. ...and I thought I was taking a "big step" when I entered for my first marathon yesterday! Good luck guys... will be following your progress here.

Corrected that one for you... Two laps does not constitute a race - just ask MM... you have to reach the checkered flag. Had to laugh at the dig the commentators had at the British F1 fans!
  9. Bugger - pity that it's the day after the Cape Town Peace Trail, otherwise I'd have been there! And same day as CT Marathon, so also taking some "roadies" that may have been interested in doing this one. Weird how people keep on clashing with big events... it's not as if CT Marathon weekend is an unknown date? I'd personally have done everything to avoid that weekend, Gun Run weekend and obviously Oceans weekend ito CT dates. That said, I opted to enter for Fairview Trailrun on the weekend of Gun Run, but at least that's local to me. These events are both IN Cape Town.
  10. Best of luck to you both. But you said the important part, Tumbles - he'll beat this...
  11. I see it's not been mentioned yet, but sad to have wokened up to the news of Justin Wilson's passing after an Indycar crash. And that also just after the passing of a legend - Guy Ligier. For those who weren't aware - another car's nosecone hit his helmet. So now (esp having happened in the States) everybody is climbing onto the bandwagon, wanting to enclose cockpits, etc. Personally do not think it's the answer - it will add other dangers.
  12. Last year the week before the Dirty Double, I did a 12 k road run (my first of that distance!) to see whether I would maybe last the 10k trail run part. Yesterday... we did a flippin 32k run in Paarl Mountain. (I think it's safe to say I'll survive the 10k trail run of DD coming weekend!) It was my furthest run by some margin, but awesome! Legs are starting to give my notice of my idiot move now, but hey, I did it. Nothing a light recovery run tonight can't fix - otherwise I'll have trouble walking tomorrow! Fortunately the Achilles seems to have held up MUCH better than anticipated. I am so glad I seem to be winning (gaining ground slowwwly) on that front now.
  13. Chirp of the weekend was DC's comment that "No this is not a slo-mo, that is how fast the McLarens are actually going!"
  14. Taxing the memory banks here, but I seem to remember I saw some Bridgedale socks at Runner's Rest. And since you're innie Bos...
  15. The click-clack on my Anthem was exactly the first suggestion. Saddle & seatpost combo. Take off/out, clean, re-tighten everything... sorted. They're very quick to replace linkage bearings etc - test by hunting the clack sound. Press down on saddle vs press down on top tube tube to recreate sound.
  16. Was a great run, wasn't it?! Really enjoyed it and the general vibe. I may get ahead of myself, but next time I'll seed myself in B. Even in a relaxed state of mind (fortunately!) the congestion got to me. And there I was thinking I'm cautious running downhills. And some girls in front having a lekker chat whilst strolling up the stairway, bugger anybody behind them... Haha, my biggest "moment" was on the last bit of that final stretch down to the TM. Had a huge slide on one of those mossed clay banks, kept upright by pushing against the fencing on the inside. (Later on thought that if a finger went through a hole it would have been rather bloody painful with the speed we were going at!) Great fun, I'm looking forward to La Capra (Fairview) now... Well, first I must survive the Cape Town Peace trail.
  17. Also entered for that - gonna be kick-azz! Did it last year as well, which was my first "run" ever! I reaaaally hope the Mitchells guys will be back...
  18. Nope, will look out for it. Did watch that Trail tv, featuring the Addo run and some race in Germany. From guys running topless to snow gear in the blink of an eye! Addo looks a beautiful area, never been there.
  19. Ja, same here... no idea what to expect, but will have to drop in a while before the start to collect numbers, I presume. Do they start in batches with a gap between - or just "deeper in from the start-line" type seeding and everybody goes off together? Seeded myself in C and will see what happens from there - my first (and only) of the series, so if I seeded myself incorrectly, I will learn from it! If it's too low a seeding, at least the first couple of k's are open. Not expecting much ito times, just running to be running.
  20. Anybody else doing the TaalMonument run this weekend? Part of the Spur Winter Series. Entered on a whim for the longer one (appr 14k), will just go for the jol, since it's close to TB and will still go for a lekker ride on Saturday.
  21. Great race. Absolutely loved it all, bar the Hulkenberg incident. Ironically, I was thinking when Hamster pulled that move on Massa that he'd never have avoided the collision the way Massa did had he been the car on the inside... some laps later, his bullying tactics backfired. Was also grimacing at how he (allegedly such a smooth driver) kept locking wheels on warm-up behind the pace car. Pity about Kimi getting the bad luck - a 1-2 for Ferrari followed by 3-4 for RB would really have had a nice ring to it!
  22. We've ridden there a couple of times, but just went for a quick run over lunchtime up into Eden... WOW! Huuuuge fun! Esp coming down.
  23. Blixem, check the head on that boikie! En daai poooote! Lovely dog - same with Becca!
  24. Stunner of a pup, Riaan! But one day when he's big, he's gonna get you back for posting public pics of him on a pink blankie... Or maybe that's what the shoes was about already!
  25. How long do you guys take to tune up the dogs to running fitness? My ridgey runs all day every day with serious naps inbetween... but when running with me the wheels comes off rather quickly. I am gradually building up her running - maybe it's better to actually run her in the mountain so she gets even more distraction - and variety in terrain? And no, she's not 6 months! Almost 3 years, so everything is settled ito hips and elbows, etc. I only started running with her every now and then recently and has been very gradual in the build-up. She's up to about 4 k's of road running now. But maybe I'm just overly cautious - after all, they're bred to run!
