  2. All PYGA OneTen29 owners, please help. I am inbetween a L and XL frame. It might help me with my choice if you can indicate your length, inseam, saddle height (anything) versus your frame size and how you find it. I am busy sourcing a frame as I want to build my own bike. A dream that most MTB'kers should have. If you have any component suggestions that you found as a must have on this bike, please share. Please also share anything that you found to be a total "no-no" on the bike.

  4. I've recently become the proud owner of a Pyga OneTen 29 frame, and am looking to build it up with a limited budget. The big question I have is whether a 100mm travel fork will have a significant affect on the bike geometry. I know that the recommendation is 120mm travel or greater. Besides the head angle getting steeper and the bottom bracket height getting lower, what other affects can be expected. Will this affect the bike's handling that significantly? I will be running shortish stem (60mm) and wide bars (710mm). Looking forward to responses from the learned members of this forum.

  7. So as an average rider I decided I wanted to build an enduro/trail type ride....read all the hype about bikes in my budget and desired. I ended up building a Pyga pascoe ( My Zola bud...taxi yellow ????) Have a like minded mate that rides same kinda bike,travel wise but with 26r wheels... Booooo doesn't he know there dead. He built a meta am with a monarch 150mm Rt3. We have done many rides where we have swung a leg over each other's steeds to see what the real world differance is and see if all the hype that those talented journos write ring true for us mere average joe's. We already had a good idea in our minds as to what the differance is between our bikes,and strangely enough we both had the same perceptions mostly about the pro's and con's . Then he went and did the unthinkable and Threw even more money at his steed and put a mrp stage 160mm 34 mm (previous fork was a rockshox 120-150mm air rct3 32mm)Can accommodate either a 26" wheel or a 650b. And changed his Tyres from purgatory & ground control to wtb Bronson 2.3 front & back. As he has a busted wrist and wanted to know how his brand new mrp felt ,especially compared to the pike on my taxi. He suggested take both bikes out and do the same twisty forest sections and rocky runs and up and down more than a few times straight after each other and see if I could feel the differance in the two forks. Yea of course I laughed my arse of at first ,but after not much debating I was keen to be the test biatch. I did a 58km ride on my taxi on the Saturday and was a little leg weary . This was by far the longest ride I had done on my pascoe and wanted to see how it felt in comparison to my 29r's I had previously owned (the list is long).. I rode in pedal mode fork & shock and it was awesome,until I started to get fatigued 10 Km's from home. Then the weight & fat tyres of the bike took its toll and almost instantly made me feel like I was pulling a trailer behind me. I know this is the same on any bike, but was amazed at how quickly it sapped my energy. But with more xc orientated tyres a lighter wheelset I could do the distance and be a lot more comfortable doing it at the same time. Would I be as fast as a 29r ? Never,but as soon it pointed downwards or got rough I would be laughing my tits of at the 100mm carbon boys. So I meet my mate on Sunday as planed and I have a go at thrashing his new mrp and comparing it to my pike. I ride his meta first and instantly can feel the weight differance in the two bikes. my first thought is if I had to drag that meta over a 60 km route ....well I just wouldn't. Our normal 20-30km rides with stops in between no problem,but there is no ways that the meta could live with the pascoe over flat out distance. And it ain't because of the wheel size . I was instantly comfortable and confident with the mrp and felt like it has transformed his ride. Am also sure the tyres have a roll to play as well but as soon as that meta pointed downhill it was like it was a bulldozer on rails...I was blown away by the mrp / tyre upgrade,and considering it wasn't my bike and a 26r ( there dead aren't they ? ) I had a huge grin and was laughing to myself every time it pointed slightly downwards. Then I jumped on my pascoe and instantly I could pedal quicker...the first part was straight up. Thinking to myself i should be quicker and more confident on my own bike . I hit the first forest section and was instantly at home on my bike. Come out the forest ride along the path and hit the Rocky road section going down,nothing wrong feels like every other time. Pedal up through the rocks and then hit the fun part of the ride,where is starts to wind down though the loose gravel etc. Get to the bottom ride through the forest and it dawns on me the meta's weight disadvantage made it feel more planted coming down. We lower the pressure for my weight and I go again on the meta. This time the fork,tyres and the whole combination of the bike was gob smacking to say the least. It tracked through comers (so much so that I wacked the pedal whilst cranked over going through a fast sweep,in the forest) with such ease that I just kept pushing it harder and going faster. Bombed it down the Rocky road,and flew over the rocks with out thinking,**** I'm on my mates bikes don't bin it. I couldn't wipe the grin of my face. Don't get me wrong I love my Pyga pascoe and had a fat jol,riding both bikes back to back. We also did timed sections through the forest and the taxi was about 10-15% quicker. Was it the tyres size,possibly but I think so it was the weight factor as much as anything else. The pike is a stunning fork,and so is the mrp. Would have no qualms about putting either on my bike. But the biggest surprise was that I couldn't feel the differance in the wheel size. Sure over long flat fire road type of riding the pascoe would ride away from you. But if you want to point something downhill,damn that meta is a sweet sweet ride. And they say 26r is dead...blah is what I say. Already have a meta am lined up for myself. This is only my personal experience and am a very average rider to say the least. I hope in some small way anyone looking to buy a enduro style bike this will encourage them to take the plunge.
  8. See pic. Rear derailleur housing is rubbing BB away. This after not much mileage. It routes from there to the internal entry point of the chainstay (PYGA oneten29)... Any suggestions to remedy? Some sort of protective plate as a buffer maybe?

  10. I'm deciding between above bikes. Enjoy doing stage races and single track. Had the privilege to test ride the Pyga( special thanx to Pyga and Revolution Cycles!) The bike is awesome on single track. Has anybody got feedback on how they compare in terms of single track vs marathon?
  11. Got hold of a used used frame and building will commence as soon as budget allows! Some advise on the fork please? Pyga recommend a 120-130mm travel. Did some reading and the rockshox revelation (140mm which is adjusted to 120mm seems the most popular). The revelation sells for 8K, whils the rockshox reba (120mm travel) sells for ~ 6.5k. If my riding style is more cross country than trail riding, would the reba be ok? (Keep in mind that i still hammer the techinal downhills when they present themselves). Don't want to sacrifice the frame's "personality" by fitting the wrong fork, but also don't want to spend xtra if not really neccessary. Any help or suggestions from the pyga riders out there would be greatly appreciated?
  12. Hey guys! I am aiming to build the best value-for-money XC/trail mountain bike. I don't necessarily want the best components, but rather the components that are decent enough to work perfectly and last and are relatively inexpensive. I am looking at something between 120mm to 140mm of fork travel because I ride long distances (races of up to 80kms a day) but also love smashing it down some single track. Some frames I had in mind are the PYGA OneTwenty 650B, Lapierre Spicy 327, to give an indication of price range. Other frame recommendations are welcome, please! No carbon, just alloy. Any other advice welcome, too! Budget is around R40 000, trying to be less than that though. Let me know your ideas and suggestions!

    Hi All, Im not sure if I should start a new topic, but the other ones have so many replies it makes it very hard to see what to do (like 150 pages of replies). In short I'm looking for a bike suitable for Enduro style riding. So far I have the following down to consider: Specialized Enduro 29" Santa Cruz Bronson C X01 spec Santa Cruz Nomad C X01 spec Pyga 140 - X01 Groupset, 160mm Pike RC3 up front, SRAM RS Guide brakes (180mm front /160mm rear) (XT group set also an option for a few grand less) Giant Trance Advanced Yeti SB66/SB95/SB75 all options - just waiting for the Yeti dealer to get me quotes Any thing else you guys know of that we can get here (Im not keen on importing, I would like to have one of my local bike shops supporting and being able to maintain the bike)

  15. Hey guys, I'm riding a Cannondale Scalpel 3 (alloy frame) 29er lefty that I have had since last year August, so not even a year old. In that time I have bent (beyond any truing) four wheels. Three of the wheels were WTB ST i19 wheels and the most recent was an Alex Rims EVO 2.0. It has always been the front wheel that has been bending. I am around 80kg (176 lbs) but have been as light as 75kg (165 lbs) when I bent the first one. I know the wheels have been built properly, three different mechanics have built them so it can't be their error. It is also not while I am hitting any big jumps or anything, I know I dont have enough travel for that, one of them was a big crash where I wouldn't be surprised that it buckled but the most recent was going through a switchback, quite slowly too. I check spoke tension and pressure before I read EVERY time, because of the recurring issue. I also know the shocks are set correctly for my weight. Does anyone have any idea why I might be bending these wheels? Am I too heavy for the lefty shock? I am seriously considering selling my bike and replacing it with something like the Lapierre Spicy 327 or the PYGA OneTwenty 650B. (Around the R35000 mark (approx $3100)). Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!
  16. Bought a Rock Shox Revelation (29" Tapered) 140 mm travel for a Pyga Oneten29. Pyga suggests a 120-130mm travel fork for this frame so I had the travel changed to 120 mm. Exposed stanchions now measure 115 mm?? Should I be concerned and have it changed back to 140 mm?
  17. I've just been looking around at the current stock of new suspension techs coming out and notice that Fox's iCD system seems to have been all but dropped. I find this quite strange as my experience with it has been nothing short of revelatory, and every review I've seen has been similar. Strangely, I have a Pyga with a 120mm Fox iCD front shock (issues with stock when I ordered meant i got "upgraded" to this as opposed to CTD... Initially I was wary, but agreed to try it out and was hooked). This combo, which doesn't make sense on the face of it, has been brilliant. Getting rid of all the fussiness of "climb" settings etc, while making the lockout so easy to use its quicker than changing gear, actually suits a trail bike more than these multiple option setups where people often just plunk them into the middle setting for the entire ride. I've been hoping to see full trail setups come out with iCD as, in my opinion, having a single switch to control lock out front and rear and (dreaming here), travel adjust on the front would really finish off these long travel superbikes and leave suspension designers free to plump for the plushest riding bikes, without compromising for ultimate climbing efficiency. Instead, I'm seeing the technology fall away and while something like the Pike would be a lovely upgrade in travel and feel, it would feel like a downgrade in use-ability for flat and uphill riding (purely just knowing that even with a remote lockout I'll never use it as actively as the iCD). Thoughts?

  19. Hi guys, Basically I have about 40k to spend on a new 29er. Ill be riding trails and hopefully get my skill set up for some decent enduro tracks and jumps. What bike will be better suited? I know the Stumpjumper has more travel than the PYGA and is a trail bike. The PYGA on the other hand is an 'aggressive' XC bike. I have tested the S WORKS stumpy and it felt amazing and have only heard good things about the PYGA. How does the PYGA make up for the lack of travel etc? Regards David

  21. We just returned from the Jhb2C after the most incredible journey of out lives. We also experienced the spirit of mountain biking on Day 8. It could easily have turned into a disappointment if it wasn't for the generosity of the PYGA team. Day 8 was looming. After 7 days of hard riding it was certainly not going to be an easy day. Day 2 of Sani2C (Day 8 of Jhb2C) is notorious for being hard. We started in the C batch and with another day of perfect weather raced down the district road behind the tractor - only to drop a chain after 20 meters. We put it back on a few times but after about 2 km realised we were in trouble and decided to turn back. The rear axle / free wheel body on my partner's bike was bust and there was no way we were going to complete Day 8 and the almost 100km. However, help came from Patrick Morewood and his team in their PYGA van. They stopped and looked at our wheel and without hesitation offered us a replacement wheel with the same 1 x 11 configuration to use on the day! We do not have PYGAs (Yet) and their generosity in helping us was just incredible. We were not the only guys helped out. PYGA had 7 bikes given out to cyclists with a mechanical. If this is the service they give to cyclists, irrespective of the brand I cannot imagine what they would have done if I had a PYGA! Thanks Patrick and Cliff! PIerre and Jos

  23. Hi Everyone So I can't find many reviews on the higher spec suntour forks. Specifically the axon and possibly epicon. ( I am considering them for my dream of a pyga one ten) There are a couple of reviews but not compared to a search for any of the other brands including x fusion. So how do you feel? Anyone with any first hand experience? Their website is informative and they certainly seem good on paper, obviously the prices are what's temping! Xfusion also tempting but not when price is the same as a revelation. I do however have a niggling in the back of my mind that you get what you pay for. Just hopping these are an exception? Any advice? Also any opinions on going more than 120mm on the oneten, my riding is more xc biased than trail. Cheers Paul
  24. So here it is: Two bikes, awesome reviews for each of them. The Niner a XC machine with good trail abilities and the Pyga a trail machine with surprisingly good XC capabilities. The frame price is not very different (R19k <> R22k). The Niner will be 1kg lighter. But the Pyga is robust, local and the green just looks rad! I ride Table Mountain and Durbanville trails and hit as many XC races as fit into the calender. Ok, let's see what you got! :-) (I know its Friday and I am already wearing a flame proof suit...;-))
