  1. Hi All I am looking for a good entry/leisure FS bike but do not want to spend more than R20k. I have been offered a Trek Superfly 6 @ R21.5k and a Scott Spark 960 @ R17.5K. There is also a KTM going for about R20k. I put it to you which bike should I buy and are there any better FS bikes out there in my price range? Thanks B

  4. Hi, Looking for some opinions from experienced Hubbers who have done Joberg2C and possibly also Epic ... I train and race on a Scott Scale for marathons and 3 day events (Sani, W2W, etc). Really enjoy the lightness and stiffness of the bike. However, for Epic 2014, I switched to my trusted Tallboy (veteran of my previous Epic's) and was very happy given the rough terrain and long tough days. Now planning on Joberg2c .... question is, should I do it on the Scott Scale or on the Tallboy? How rough is the terrain? (compare to Epic) how rocky/loose and steep are the climbs? To a certain degree I prioritise speed over comfort, unless it gets too bad/rough (saddle sores, etc). thanks
  5. Hi Hubbers I managed to pull the wool over my wife's eyes long enough to get her to agree to me buying a new bike . I'm going for the Scott Spark 910 and am considering changing the stock Syncros wheels for Mavic Crossmax ST's. Not sure this is necessary though - can anyone advise me on the Syncros wheels? Would I benefit significantly with the Mavic's? The specs: Syncros XR2.0 rims with DT Swiss Aero Comp spokes and Syncros XR2.0 CL / 12 x 142 / RWS hub (made by DT Swiss). I weigh 90kgs and do exclusively cross-country/marathons. Any advice would be appreciated.
  6. Anybody have issues with the engagement of the free body ?? I often have this "clunck" noise as I apply power. OEM wheels on Scott Scale Pro 29 er, spec sheet says DT Swiss XR29 but think the are 240's as XR29' not on DT Swiss website. Probably done a 1000 km on it, second free body (replaced on warranty), now it would appear that the hub itself has bocome damaged, edges burred as a result of engagment problem I think.. It only has 2 pawls. Next question: what do I replace it with that wont break the bank, is easy to service and maintain with spares readily available ??? Any comments ???
  7. Hi guys, i have three bicycles that i want to change components between. 8. Hi Guys I have a Scott Scale 40 and I would like to know if somebody knows how much this bike would go for. I bought it 6 or 7 yaers ago(I THINK). It has Manitou Black fork, Full Shimano LX components(FD, Shifter, Crank, Brakes ect.) and a XT RD. Thanx!!
  9. Hi guys Search skills didn't find anything on here about this so i hope it hasn't been discussed before, if so , sorry. I am running a 172.5mm crank length on my bike, I am suffering from knee pain lately and i am wondering if it has to do with my crank arms. My in-seam is roughly 882mm. Now i must admit i haven't gone for an ErgoFit fitment or anything like that before. I do want to go to one just dont know which one as Cajee in princess crossing is charging R400 and Cyclefit R750 or so. All i know is that Aaron Brown runs the CycleFit one, apart from that no idea in the differences between them. My Web search has conflicting info about my crank length, some say 172.5mm is fine other sites say cause its for my MTB it needs to be 175mm and even one suggests it must be 180mm. As both are pretty expensive i dont know which to do first, and if it is replace crank to what length. Any and all advice from you experts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott
  10. Hi, I'm driving down to ride the S2C Trail and I would have space for 1x person to join me and share some costs. My plan is to drive down on Monday 12May for registration, and then to return on the Friday after camping in Scottsburg on the Thursday evening. Please contact me by mail if you are interested. 11. I want to change the SCOTT DT Nude2 rear shock on my 2013 model Scott Spark 940 to a FOX. I understand that I need a shock that is 165 mm long, but apparantly I also need a secial size washers to make the shock fit. Has anyone done this change or can anyone offer some advice? Thank you. Eddie

  13. I currently have a merida 120 dual sus trail bike 26er. great bike for ST but it is heavy and I sukkel on the the climbs on XC rides/races. I think it weighs like R15kg. I would love a Spez Epic Comp but they like go for R34k, my budget is under R20k and i see the Scott Spark 960 29er dual sus going for under R20k. it's weight is 13,45kg, how does that compare to weight of other bikes in that price range. it must be a 29er and must be dual sus (I prefer the softer ride for my knees and age, LOL)

  15. I may just as well copy and paste my previous post... Scott Scale 940, 2013 model, medium frame, black with blue, stolen in week before the Argus. Insurance pulled all the stops and got me onto a new bike (managed to get the very last 2013 medium around) in time for the Argus. Last Thursday, said bike (inside house and locked to Thule rack) neatly stolen - again!!!!! Somewhere someone has a set-off point for all these stolen bikes...I reckon if we managed to trace a few of them, we'll find where they're all going... In the meantime, I'm seriously fed-up (and probably bikeless as the insurance may not necessarily pay oit again...) Please keep an eye out, folks...
  16. Newly formed Swiss / South African duo Nino Schurter (27) and Philip Buys (24) will participate in this year’s Absa Cape Epic, which takes place from 23 to 30 March, for the first time as team Scott-Odlo Racing. The dramatic new route of the event, now in its eleventh year, will be as challenging as previous years. Click here to view the article
  17. South African Philip Buys commandingly won his second stage of the 2014 Absa Cape Epic Saturday with Swiss partner Nino Schurter (Team Scott-Odlo) as the race for the overall winners’ yellow zebra-striped jersey was again touched by drama. Click here to view the article

  21. Top of my shopping list at the moment. Any positive/negative feedback? Any other in the same price range worth considering? http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/234016008/bike-scale-935-l/
  22. So, after having been riding (and enjoying riding) a fairly "mass-market" Scott Scale since the beginning of 2013, I decided it was time for something special again. The Scale's an amazing climber, and because of it's sub-70deg HA, it actually handles a bit of tech quite respectably, but I've been missing railing into berms flat out and then bouncing off the gnarly stuff on the way out. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a well-cared-for Pyga OneTen29 last week and proceeded to rebuild it with a mixture of new and used parts. The spec list: Frame: Pyga OneTen29 2012, serial number "Cliff", Shock: Rockshox Monarch RT3 Fork: Mongrel Rockshox Relevation (2012 lowers, 2014 RCT3 upper assembly with FastBlack stanchions) Wheelset: Novatec Flowtrail 29 Tyres: Rocket Ron 2.25 rear, Hans Dampf 2.35 front Cranks: XX1 156q GXP Derailleur: X9 type 2 short-cage Shifter: X0 black Brakes: XT 785 Rotors: XT RT76, 180mm front, 160mmm rear Pedals: XT 785 Trail Stem: FSA SL-K Bar: Truvativ Noir T40 Seatpost: Easton EA70 Saddle: Fizik Tundra 2 Mg The raw finish of the frame was looking a bit dull and scratched in places, so I took everything apart and applied some TLC with steel wool and a scourier sponge in places. Cliff from Pyga was very helpful in supplying a new decal kit, which pimped things out again afterwards. I spent a few nights last week and some time over the weekend building stuff up (thanks to Marc at Crown Cycles for helping with a few bits and bobs during Argus mania). The end result since last night is this: I have yet to ride it any further than the road in front of the house, so will report back as soon as the first ride is over. So far, I've been mighty impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the beast. Hot damn!
  23. I would like to say a big thank you to Steve Bowman from Cycle Lab Cape Town. My wonderful Scott 29er developed a small problem and dispite me not buying it from CL, Steve handled the entire warranty process and handed me a new bike in next to no time. A big up to you Steve!
