  2. Hi, I'm looking to buy a new mountain bike for the first time. My budget is up to R20k, but I have already looked at a few bikes and made a list of my favourites. I have looked at a few bikes within my budget including the Giant Talon 0 (2021), Trek Marlin 8 (2022), Specialized Rockhopper Expert (2021) and Silverback Stride SX (2021). These four bikes are my top picks, but I lean towards the Marlin 8 and Talon 0 more. Does anyone have any advice between these two bikes? I will use the bike for commuting and some off-road riding over weekends, so currently it looks like it might come down to external looks, brand preference and warranty as I won't be pushing the bike to its limits anytime soon, but that might change over time. If I go with the Talon 0 I will upgrade the tires to tubeless tires, so it will cost a bit more than the Marlin 8.

  6. Hey Bike Hub People I need advice on these three bikes. I liked riding bikes as a kid and I want to get back into it but i don't know what to look for. I don't know if I want to take this serious as a sport yet but i also don't want to buy trash or end up over paying for something. I'm looking for a good decent bike that if I want to get serious It wont take much to get it to a competitive place I came across a Trek 4500 for R4000 but its second hand but refurbish. A new Avalanche Reflex 29" 3 on special for like R800 more or should I save a bit more and go for the rook. Or are all 3 not what I'm looking for
  7. Good evening all I have had my E-Caliber for a month now and love it. 🥰 I have done more "analogue" rides now than e-bike rides - the reason why I bought it - to use both modes. Question : Can I enter a "race" or an "event" in "Analogue" mode? For those that do not know - you remove the motor and the battery and replace it with a hollow down tube. @chrisf and others - I will appreciate your help. Thanks Cassie
  8. Good day everyone I am on the brink of buying my third e-bike. I do 99% tar / gravel / mountain passes and 1% easy single tracks (if need to be - for medical reasons). I do 2-5 hr rides with 800-1500 m ascents. If finances were not an option, the TQ system on the Trek E-Fuel would have been my first choice. But, I can get a good deal on an E-Caliber (with the Fazua system) Does anybody with any negative comments about the E-Caliber or the Fazua system at all? My friends are very happy with their bikes - I am just checking throughout the community for warnings - especially the Fazua motor / battery? Thank you in advance - baie dankie. Cassie
  9. Hi all, can anyone with the same or similar bike confirm if there are bushes in between the rocker and frame? Think the previous owner might have lost them. Doesn't make sense that there wouldn't be any bushes in there, swingarm moves without them and scared of tightening the bolt without bushes in case something snaps. Can someone confirm? See pictures to see what I mean.
  10. I am selling my Spec Epic ally 2x10 and picking up a Trek Super fly carbon. They both have Sram XO, however the Trek has a 3 ring front chain ring, and the shifters are in better condition. Can I simply convert the Treks 3 ring to 2 ring by removing a ring and setting the front shifter limit?
  11. Following the discusiion on the Trek / Penske thread I thought I'd start a new one on the Boost148 "standard". Bikeradar have just published an article with more info on it http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/trek-and-sram-roll-out-wider-axle-standard-41352/ http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2014/06/13/1402615772146-ao0yv51uzn7z-320-180.jpg
  12. Hi guys. I am posed with a bit of a problem. I am looking at buying a entry level MTB. The plan is to ride once during the week and then over the weekends. Then doing at least one fun ride (about 10km) every 2 months. I am about 1.7 tall. (Read short). I have been looking at the Axis A60 (26'') hydraulic disc brakes or the Trek Marlin (29'') with mechanical disc brakes. The issue now is... do i go for a 26'' with better specs or for a 29'' and maybe look to upgrade components later. Alternatively the secondhand market is a entirely different prospect, but it does come down to the same question 29'' / 650b small frame (not too common for a good price) or a 26'' with reasonable specs (because everyone seems to be selling them to upgrade to 29'')? Please help?
