Due to work that got in the way of my training the past few months, I am only now doing my high-volume training month for IM (i know it's a bit late).

The last few weeks I've constantly been tired, depite sleeping about 7-8 hrs a night on average... Is this normal when you're hitting 20-25hrs a week worth of training?

My days keep getting shorter, because after work I eat, train and fall asleep and even if I get 8 hrs of sleep (like last night) i still wake up tired and feeling that I need to sleep an hour or two more!

rudi-h,

I am no triathlete.

And there are endurance training principles which is very applicable in any context of training.

You are clearly training to catch-up with missed time. Prob taking on more training volume than what you're system is used to.

Be okay to rest a 1-2 days. Underresting can severaly cripple your performance.

Also, be cautious to place a high goal if you training does not match the reality of what it will take to reach that sub 12hrs, for example.

Be realistic with your goalsetting in terms of results.

There's more to say.

And, I am sure other Hub members will add.

ALL DA BEST!

Hi Boet you show the typical symptoms of over training - Specifically if you have been doing high intensity stuff.

Relax a bit - its not worth it - burnout is serious and it take a ling time to get over it.

Have a look at this site nice information around training

Thanks for the feedback. I take a rest day at least once a week and I don't do high intensities at the moment, so I doubt that I'm over-trained and I feel very good while training. Also performing well and seeing solid improvement on my fitness.

Maybe its because I increased my weekly hours with more than 50% in the past few weeks, so maybe the tiredness is just normal. I will only keep this up for another week or two, then I'll taper down to more reasonable training habits.

Try to do 2 hours every afternoon and klap two loooong sessions on weekends :)

If you are sure it's not from over training, then there are many possibilities, from chronic fatigue syndrome to parasitic infection (e.g. billharzia), anaemia, etc.

For anaemia, have a look in the mirror and see what colour your gums are. If they're nice and pink then you're fine. If they're almost white, then you're very probably iron-deficient.

Again, too many possibilities. If I was in your position, I'd just go see my GP and get some blood tests done.

Simple answer - you're over-trained.

You need to check your resting HR every morning. My guess is it'll be elevated indicating that you're doing too much.

REST!!!

Wouldn't say easy answer. There are lots of possibilities which could also be stress, not eating enough etc.
