http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/phil-liggett-saddles-up-for-south-african-race

Phil Liggett will indulge his twin passions of cycling and South Africa when he sets off on the nine-day Fairbairn Capital/Old Mutual joBerg2c off-road race starting on April 29.

For people on a cycling forum, you lot are weird.

(edit, mods will complain about my original thread title, even though they're as fed up with all the crap as I am)

Really? Cause being an abrasive b@stard is in my nature. Like the West African folk tale, I'm the scorpion... When asked why, the scorpion explains, "I'm a scorpion; it's my nature."

other than commentating .... what else is Mr Liggets claim to fame ?

How did he start commentating ? Was he an ex pro ?

Google, google

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Liggett

In 1973, age 30, Liggett became the youngest ever UCI international commissaire

And being technical director at the milk race, makes you think he speaks some sense on the doping/radios/etc issues...

Paul Sherwin is an ex pro. He raced on teams alongside ladyboy Robert Millar...

Slowbee, in this case google is your friend.

He was at J2C last year, gave us quite an entertaining talk on the behind the scenes of the TDF.

So he knows alot about the rules of cycling, and has insights into the backgrounds.

thats pretty rad.

Like Murry Walker to F1, Phil Liggett to cycling ........... often a lot of cock ups, but DAMN entertaining and certainly FULL of wisdom in their sports/fields.

I used to like the Phil and Paul show but I think its got somewhat dated now. Listening to Mathew Keenan commentate on the last few tours Oman, Quatar, Paris / Nice I have grown to enjoy his fresh style and dry humour, but then I also like Paddy Agnew.......so go figure.!
