Alonso could be going until he's 50 😅 but he's still competitive.

Yeah, I suppose my biggest gripe with the drivers holding on too long is that it tarnishes their record but also it blocks a seat for a younger and possibly more talented driver coming up or moving into a more competitive seat.

I liked Seb, but like you said, this was probably slightly overdue. Hopefully we can see Piastri on the grid next year. Him at Williams would be a good move and a proper test alongside Albon.

I'm a bit surprised, I though Alonso was close to extending his Alpine deal.

I think they have long term potential because they are putting a lot of money towards things, but right now it seems like a step backwards and Alonso might not be there long enough to see the long term benefits.

Also would assume that Piastri would probably be joining Alpine next year.

Very strange situation indeed...........

I hope it does not land up biting Oscar in arse...I would think a reserve driver would be a bit more quiet in the media until he is guaranteed of a drive...

He is either playing chicken with Alpine or he has a contract in his back pocket already with another team.......

I am not even sure he is worth all the fuss tbh. I think there are better drivers currently in F2 to choose. Flip, I would even like to see Jaime Chadwick give it a go........... Clearly FW is a waste of time for her.

The fuss is due to his junior record being comparable to that of LeClerc and Russell's, winning F3 & F2 at his first attempt. He beat most of the good drivers in F2 currently, apart from Sargeant. Pouchaire is very young and would possibly have been a more stiff competitor had Piastri been able to race F2 in '22. So Piastri is arguably the best of the 2021 - 2022 crop of F2 drivers.

Drugovich? This would be his 3rd F2 season and was comprehensively beaten last year when Piastri was there.

Yeah that's the dude. Drives the red bull.

Yeah Arthur is doing well. Possibly Ferrari can screw 2 LeClerc races up at once in a few years time.
