Late last year I changed from an entry level Marzocchi fork to a RS Reba Team. Not so much a comparison cos of the different cost etc. but man oh man did it make a HUGE difference. From my experience adjustable rebound is the most important thing on a fork!

And the adjustable flood gate is really cool too. I sometime lock out the fork on tight decends (Not rocky tho) as it stops you from going over the bars and the floodgate still absorbs the big hits...

Just as a matter of interest do Fox forks have a similar thing?

Christie: Cycles Africa (Chris King, the now defunct Race Face, Cane Creek, Answer) used to be the Manitou agents but dropped it a year or so ago.

Daloco: A shock that works is not necessarily a good shock. Just like a TV that works is not a good TV

Suntour is bigger in Europe because of 1. OE and 2. the massive market there and 3. its their home-base

atilla: RS Sid or Reba will do. Sid being higher end its more $$$, bit lighter

NIC0000: If floodgate is what keeping you from going over the bars then your fork and possible your bike is not setup properly. Could be technique as well come to think of it.

Some Fox shocks do have the flood gate. My one has and it is an F32 FIT

My VERY GOOD FRIEND..... Eish! (is that not just the most EXPRESSIVE word? It encompasses disbelief, shock, horror, outrage, sympathy etc. all in a neat 4 letter)

If you are - GOING OVER THE BARS on a descent, then you A. Have too little pressure in your fork. B. Have your fork locked out. C.Are clutching at your brakes.

THE Lockout is for climbing (standing up) on, flat sprints (although pumping a fork helps), Tarmac and (sometimes) hardpack.

The FORK is designed to DO descents, UNLOCKED.

Do you see DOWNHILL RIDERS (The Other Side) locking out to descend?

Rule No 1. NO POOFTERS.

Rule No 2. Set It Up Right.

Eish !

yup! I second that.

There have been times that I've overshot a dirt jump and landed nose heavy. If it wasn't for plush front suspension I would have quite a few less teeth.

Leave your fork unlocked, distribute your weight slightly rearward (not too far back), and ease up on the front brake. You'll have a way more pleasant descending experience ;)

I would just like to get a RF or Pushed tuned fork.

Pity they don't and won't ship to SA. Was looking to buy a shock and have it shipped to a friend in the States, then courier it from there to me. But you MUST have a US credit card in your name before they will ship to you. So now its a stock Monarch Plus that'll replace my RP23.

At the end of the day, it's up to you. I like FOX, but I prefer RockShox personally. They are smooth, easy and cheap to service, look good and have all sorts of add-ons, so that a slightly lower cost fork can be upgraded as you can afford.

I have never felt a Marzocchi that I like, and for my sins have had Manitou that aren't at all alright in-between, and then only when they work.

Choosing the right fork and shock for your riding style is the important thing. Trying to use a Tora to huck jumps is just going to end in costly tears. Trying to win XC races on a Pike will not get you far fast. Trying to do anything on an AMERICAN will just end in - tears I suppose?

Setting up your suspension properly is also NB, as is correct and regular servicing.

(Spelling issues aside:)

Front Suspension = FORK

Rear Suspension = SHOCK

BOTH = Suspension, as in FULL SUS vs HARDTAIL
