I think its about time we do a protest for acknowledgment as users of the roads.

I had an idea of all of us driving very slowly up and down some of the major routes with our bikes on the back of our cars slowing traffic flow.

with "If it was safer we'd ride" banners.

RIP - another good one gone !

If anyone knows who the cyclist was please let me know. It is very sad and I pray that the LORD keeps all the cyclists safe whilst out riding.

THANKS & BE SAFE!

I too saw the accident, and saw his body being taken away. Very very sad to see!! I travel down Swartkoppies and Klipriver every day and am very aware of the cyclists always up and down Swartkoppies and Klipriver, so I am always on the look out for them.

Something should be done especially as there are no warning signs for drivers to be aware of cyclists on those roads.

RIP, my condolences to the family.

Mechelle, if you travel these roads on a daily basis surely you would have seen the W309 cyclists warning signs that were erected in 2007.unsure.gif

We observed a minute's silence at the start of the south group ride at 7am yesterday.

Condolences to his family and friends - very sad indeed.

No one seemed to know who the cyclist was.

Phew, I dont go along there often but whenever I do its packed with cars and trucks on both roads and both lanes (Swartkoppies and Klipriver) plus at 5.30pm its starting to get a bit darker now which would make it even more dangerous.

I know somebody posted here that alledgedly a truck jumped the lights, but I havent seen any thing official in any newscast or paper yet.

Very unfortunate indeed, but as winter draws in and it gets darker quicker we are going to have to be more vigilant, its not about who is right or who is wrong, its about going home.

There are signs. And on weekend mornings there is Helivac (Shaun), and a vehicle sponsored by Lexus that drive support, with a paramedic. I think we need to support these initiatives. Incidents like this remind one of the value they are adding.

Hmm, as I said, I dont drive along there that often, maybe once or twice a month if I go to the Catholic church on Klipriver, but I too have never really seen cyclist signs either, although I see lots of cyclists.

Still think its a very busy road to cycle on.
