I'm beginning to think that calling this thread the "Idiots Guide to Licensing" was maybe pitching it too high. SmileChrisH2007-11-16 02:03:00

Uhm.... Don't have the magazine with me, unfortunately - though they used to have it up online - will see if I can get to re-read the article...

BUT - in the latest Mountain Biker, the President(?) of one of the Cycling Associations(?) said something to the effect of them deciding to do away with the Cyclo-Sport licence etc... Basically, there will now only be ONE licence to be used by Mtb'ers, which will cost an annual amount of R75,00.

I'm the first to say that I am not nearly clued up enough in this regard, but the above is what I managed to understand from what was being said...

If so - changes quite a bit!

We might need to update the "Idiot's Guide"....

So much confusion, caused - not the least of which - by those in charge who appear to be constantly shifting the goalposts....

I agree (if my understanding is correct), that ONE universal/generic license makes more sense, and is easier to explain/understand - just wish it could've started off like that without causing so much confusion....

What Goofs quoted on page 1 of the thread is virtually a verbatim copy of that which was published in the Cycle Challenge Race Brochure. However that was based on outdated decisions and the topic I posted earlier last week from Mike Bradley (MTB commissioner) was a later version.

BUT, no final decision has been taken with regards to licences.

The relevant stakeholders are meeting with CSA tonight on the subject and more info should be available next week.

edit: Woohoo 2 500 posts !!

Cyclocross ?? I think you mean cyclosport and yes you do get a card. With the cyclosport you will be seeded with full lic age and sex categories' date=' elites vets etc if there is space available in the start group otherwise you will be seeded in ability category using the national seeding index.

Clap This makes such sense. I was asked how did I end up in the licenced group, and yesterday I got this answer as you provided. I would have been in "D" if not in the licenced group, but with more guys in D and starting later, as compared to my 6.00 "getaway" in the licenced group because of my "Cyclocross" oopsss...LOL Cyclosports licence. So I feel it is all worth joining and getting yourself a licence, it has it's benefits.

" ... but it will still be a requirement that the licence holder must be a member of a club or of their Provincial Body (i.e. CGC' date=' Pedal Power Association)."
Will the real provincial body in the Western Cape please stand up!
PPA or WPCA?

WPCA is the REAL provincial body in the Western Cape, with what can we help you with?

No temp licenses.  As jy WP champs wil ry, moet jy by 'n club aansluit en 'n vol lisensie uitneem.

This is too much crap info for a Friday & that on the eve of 94.7 & the fact that I received an incorrect sms so my race number could not be located for almost 2hrs.....

I just don't buy into all this licencing issues and the fact that U either belong to a club or don't & still pay a fee of R30 & all the hogwash ... just another form of taxation by an organised body of sport - or are they "organised?" - I wonder.

Thankfully racing does not appeal to me any longer - & neither does belonging to a club...never made a difference to my cycling.
