I am looking at upgrading my group set. Is there anybody that has done some research into the pro's and cons of these two group sets. Weight, durability cost of replacing cassettes chain rings and brake pads?

 

 

Any feedback would be most welcome.

My advice is more on the maintenance side - whichever groupset you have tools and knowledge of is the groupset you should buy.

 

Both gruppos are awesome - personally I feel the difference comes in with knowing your equipment if something goes wrong in a race, how equipped your workshop is for either gruppo and how comfortable you are fixing it.

 

Either gruppo will perform admirably.

As Eldron says, I think it's basically down to what 'series' equipment you're used to - if you currently run Shimano, then go for XTR - if you currently run SRAM, go for X0.

 

I was building a bike with a friend at the weekend using SRAM and it took twice as long as with Shimano (all my bikes are Shimano), since it was not 'second nature'.

 

So I think both are excellent, it's just a matter of personal taste.

* SRAM's shifiting will need less TLC and maintenance and it's generally quicker as it uses a smaller leverage ratio.

* Shimano brakes are by default pretty average

* Weight wise there's not much in it. Last time I checked XO was lighter and less expensive. XX is lightest but $$$

* SRAM doesn't have that stupid cable loop going into the rear der. One less item than can get caught in undergrowth

* SRAM uses integrated brackets for brakes/shifters. Better integration , less clutter on your bars. If you mix and match it won't be an issue though.

I have ridden both, and I really liked the way the XTR shifted it is super smooth the X0 is fast and snappy and also really good.

I have X0 on the 1 bike and XTR on the other.

Like the way both work although i can downshift easier on the XTR.

If u in CT come have a try on both if u want before makig that decision.PM me.

SRAM for me please.

 

Thats crazy how much they differ in movement. I was always a devout Shimano user until I tried X9... I will never go back!

 

Can't wait until the purse strings can handle a sweet piece of 2x10 X0 kit..........one day

I am a SRAM fan, but I must admit the SRAM Noir cranks are shite, not very stiff, the BB is a pain to install (Althought the BB itself is awesome) The rings are soft, the wear is ok, but bend and buckle if you look at them. My next bike will have SRAM except I will go with the new XTR cranks. By all accounts the new XTR brakes are awesome, I had the previous XTR brakes and to say they were bad is an understatement. The new XTR is also very, very good looking. I will actually go XTR brakes as well. But the shifting on the SRAM is un-surpassed!
