Rode at Northern Farms yesterday. My buddy locked his keys in his car  and waited for the spares at the gate while the rest of us rode.

A short while later another cyclist arrives at the gate without a bike. He was riding from Paulshof to Northern farms when three darker complexion gentlemen decided to apprehend him with a knife - he apparent got off and was going to fight back - as which point they produced a handgun pointed at his head. He handed over the bike without further fuss.

He was about a km outside Northern Farms towards Diepsluit.

Sad to think that in this place we now have to have a six wheeled bike to enjoy a ride out in the sticks (4 on the 4x4 and two on the bicycle - utterly pointless me thinks :( )

Was there yesterday afternoon, and rode about 30kms. Did not see a lot of people around and this news does not give me a lot of comfort.

Will have to go in the mornings when it is a bit more busy. Not good news at all.

JV I rode there yesterday morning the car park was packed and while riding there were people around all the time. 8 o clock when I go there.

Note: Northern Farms itself has not had an incident since they implemented security guards and moved routes away from the roads.

I did post something about 3 weeks ago on here about a jacking that happened inside the farm . Just a rumour ?

x 2 only cycle in the farm. If you need to do longer rides go to Breedts, van Gaalens or Teak.

Thats what I think yes, usually cycle in the morning, but with wife coming along it is a deag to get there early to have the safety in numbers!

I like to cycle when there aren't hunderds of people around, but looks like it is a risk these days :(

I don't know. Link?

There was one incident reported several months ago where a rider rode into two people who had a gun - but on balance of the facts they were probably poachers and not hijackers.

I hope all those baas teds die from slow puncture sooner rather than later, where is safe to ride now days without having to worry about a jigaboo jumping out the bush to repossess your bike?

"It happened on the road close to a township, why is Northern Farms even mentioned?

If there have been no incidents in the farm itself what is the problem?"

Because - I see many riders riding to and from Northern Farms - even on Sunday after this event. If I don't post then they wont know and then sooner or later "Pooka" - a wife loses a husband, a child loses a father - you get the pikcha, my china?

I understand the warning and I am sure that the people who ride there appreciate it.

However people shouldnt include riding in the farm as the issue?

Its part of the issue....I often ride to teak...do a lap and ride back to fourways. It adds nice miles to my training. If you can't do this at NF, well I won't even consider riding there.

I know the guys @ NF are trying their best to secure the place and the trails but to be honest I wouldn't consider riding there unless it is very busy.
