Do you people think that 32Gi would be ideal for an XC race?

Good question but pse clarify which type of XC race...short, medium, long, ultra or multi day XC race?

Being old school (moi) i would assume you mean the XCO type as in multi lap racing that takes +/- 90 to 120 minutes to complete at race effort.

Having only used 32GI for XCM (long and multi stage)and training events that are longer than a XCO race I cannot say, but will say that 32GI works for me on the longer events.

I suspect that the current 32GI would not be the ideal for short maximum effort events.

MDW actually explains quite well in the "32GI Rocks" thread on how 32gi works, and how it has to be supplemented for different type of rides

I dont change my perceptions quickly, I use to be a fan of Cytomax but halfway through my second tub of 32GI and 80km into the second day of a 300km Mtb stage race I realised that not once in the 8 hours Id ridden the previous day and the current day combined did I feel "low" or like "I hit the wall" It doesnt give you super powers but Its like petrol in a car, It allowa you to focus on the racing. I am a belever in the 32GI revolution. My Team mate who was as strong as I was was riding on Perpetum from Hammer and he took sips of my 32 at times when his bottles were looking empty, he felt stronger during those times than when he was riding on his stuf and he changed over to 32 for the last day.

I experianced a "kick" when I was taking Cytomax but I have realised that "kick" is actually just a upward spike of your sugar levels when the Sugar levels started dropping.

32GI is a lot less dramatic, It doesnt do much except give you sustained energy for the duration of the race. Ive never hit the wall since.(read fineprint)

Read the new study in april/may ride mag.

They dont seem to think 32GI works at all.

Come on guys, Its not a new study, the Birmingham report has been around for 5 years, and it speaks about gastric emptying under a certain set of conditions. I can show you reports which show positive aspects about isomaltulose. If you are interested in the complete report because what was showed in there was a fraction of it, and if you are interested in the testing conditions etc, you are welcome to contact me.

Results speak for themselves, 100 pro athletes, 4 gold medals at Comrades, Energade series wins and most podiums,7 Ironman slots in Hawaii, on Sunday at IM we won 35-39 category, 40-44 category and 45-59 category, and others fuelled on 32Gi. These are only a small amount of results. Any "researcher" that says they are skeptical is not a researcher they are biased from the onset.

Finally 32Gi is not just a drink, its chews as well, which we advocate for high intensity racing, so how can you compare apples with oranges, you cannot. I just think that a single article written in a biased way, with a research report which is 5 years old, is really a poor explanation of how a product actually performs.

all the best

Then explain to me how i did the w2w each day took me 5 hrs plus on no food nudda whatsoever? I also did grape escape 5-6hrs a day on no food nudda? Did the Argus on 1 bottle of 32gi and some chews again not a bite nothing. Did 70km elsefontein took me 4 40 did not eat a thing.

This coming from someone who coul;dnt ride more than 3 hrs without bonking.

So if its all in my mind then so be it. Of not then this all the proof i need.

I used 32gi drink and chews at Iron Man in PE. No gels or gu's. I hate half a chicken breast after 120km on the bike and that was it. 3 Bottles 32gi juice mix,3 packets of 32gi chews, water and then some coke on the run. My energy levels never felt depleted.

For Ironman there is NO better product but to be honest I find it is found wanting when it comes to XC, was riding Thornhill track in PE which if i am not mistaken has hosted a few National XC events and it really lacked the initial kick you need to keep the tempo high in XC. Long Distance that stuff is unbelievable but when it comes to taking the bike to the limits I use USN's Cyto Power HP>>

@MDW

I never said I dont believe it works, I just stated what I READ, thanks for clearing it up.

Will give it a try!!

Would you recommend the chews in conjunction with the drink?

No problem at all, YES I definitely recommend the chews with the drink. I have been using the chews with the drink for racing now for 9 months and it keeps my energy levels so topped up and balanced. Coming off the bike onto the run I have never felt better at all, had 2 PB's in the last two 70.3's :-)

Did You know that had you used applejuice diluted with water, you would have had the exact same result.

No quite Redsox ;-)
