He should hit them with his car, would have been cheaper.

When dogs do this i find a smack on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and a firm "bad boy" usually works on the owner.

What? Maul a cat? Chase a cat? Cost their negligent owner vast sums of money? Crap cause of a brooklax overdose? And wait, do you smack the owner on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and tell them bad boy?

3 Boerbulls at the farm where we used to live caught and mauled a cat (too distressing to rescue the cat and have it die in your hands), there were trees all over and these boerbulls were normally fat lazy dogs, but when they saw something to chase, well, it was game on!

duidelik nie street wise kat gewees nie...ai arme kat

I have 4 cats as well...and there is no way you keep a cat indoors....

If you think a Jack Russel can escape, watch a cat.

I'm in the mood for disagreeing today LOL just joking...

BUT

I know someone here in Schweiz who has 8 cats and they all stay indoors permanantly, only time they go out is onto the balcony (which is closed in with mesh / glass) or when the owner takes them to a cat show. They are all show cats and large portions of their house has been turned into a cat play ground with all the climbing, scratching poles and things cats like to play with.

I'm on the cat hater side of the fence...

There is nothing worse than coming home to the smell of cat urine after some feline turf war. When I chat to the owner I get the standard "cat's like to roam/cruel to keep them inside/nocturnal blah blah".

It's YOUR pet - keep it in YOUR yard/house/flat etc. I keep my animals on MY property - do the same with YOURS!

Phew. Man I hate cats.

I would have sued the rider's a$$ for driving over my dog and not swerving/bunny hopping to avoid my dog... :)

I know you most probably joking but a few months ago my overgrown Boerbull ran out of the gate and got hit by a idiot in a speeding bakkie . He lost his front bumper and a few other loose things but the dog was fine and returned to its stables . Now this gentleman thought he was going to scare me into fixing his front and back (old dings) by mentioning his lawyer . SO I humoured him for a while and then made my offer to repair the front of the vehicle . Being the total @#@$ that he must be he declined and said he will seek legal help . So off he went on his merry way to see if he can sue the pants of me . Anyway nothing came of his little exercise and when he eventually came back to me asking to fix his car I told him to (add any two words here) .

When driving/riding/cycling in a residential area be on the alert . The are not only unruly dogs but also children running around !

Ok I only read the first few replies. My son belongs to a soccer academey. On this field there are about 6 signs showing no dogs allowed. However you will always find people walking there dogs there, allowing their dogs to take a crap on the field and not picking up after the dog. When you confront them you get the normal, they are animals, they should be free to do etc etc. However right next door on the nxt plot is an area for dogs. So why dont these owners take their dogs there. Is it becuase they wanna create an uneasy atmosphere?? 2 years ago a dog charged after some 6 year old kids who were training, had it not been for a quick repsonding parent who knows how it would have turned out. I am so sick and tired of dog owners who dont take responsibility and always get away with the poor behaviour shown by them and their animals

Exactly. Which is why if a cat comes into my yard, me or the dogs is gonna sort it out.

I'm on the dog's side.

No mention of the injuries he sustained from the 2 cyclist trying to maul him over.

This same story could have a completely different look and feel when told/written by someone else.

How much money would they claim if it was a township dog? Will it still be worth R50000 of damages?

How many people has R50000 to pay towards a claim? If they claim R50000 from someone who don't even earn it in a year, can he sue the cyclists for attempted murder when he won't have any food on the table?

I do think that if I were in the cyclist shoes, I would also want to claim damages somewhere. But like the header states, why would hitting them with a car have been a cheaper claim?

In all fairness, sometimes the "judicial system" comes up with some very unfair rulings.

I'm with you on the dog issue!

I live on a plot with semi domesticated rabbits and chickens. I like self relliant animals that only need occassional care.

I've had a few dogs getting through the fence and munching my rabbits/chickens...not cool man - keep your frikkin dogs in your frikkin yard.

I wonder if I can sue at R25/chicken? The rabbits came with the property so I can't really claim for them...

Because a car would have been a minor dent to the bumper - the girl in the accident landed on her face and broke her jaw. Unless she claims from the dog owner she (or her medical aid) are stuck with the bills.

Dog owner's fault - dog owner's problem I say.

Unfortunate agreed but fair I reckon.
