Best revovery/endurance supplement for 24hr race?

What are you opinions regarding the best supplment drink to use before and during a 24hr mtb race. Something that will keep the legs going. In terms of energy I currently use 32GI which works great for me. But it doesnt do a lot for recovery.

 

Was thinking of something like USn epic pro in addition to 32GI.

Hammer Perpetuam Caffe Latte flavour...I swear by it.

 

Everyone has their own drink though, perpetuam works well for recovery since it has protein in the mix as well.

I have the same question. I use Cytomax for during the race and normally don't worry about recovery (I'm just a weekend warrior, have a whole week to recover).

 

But, I will be doing my first stage race in May so should probably think about a recovery drink. I am lactose intolerent so choc milkshakes etc won't go down well.

The event is so long (if you solo) that you'll be better off with some 'real' food in stead of supplements... NOT steak, baked potatos etc, but maybe fruitcake, pasta salads etc . Something solid.

 

Sure I'm going to get shot down for this as it is not the advocation of sachet'ed / tinned /powered / miracle cure 'supplement'!

Nope you are right, I like nutela and banana samies on my 5 hour plus rides, but I thought the question was about what supplement drinks to take, the kind you have while you are riding and afterwards. Oh and for the record, my best recovery food is a medium rare 30 day old aged steak from the local grill mixed with some draught beers ;)

Shorter rides I just drink Game, like the taste better than Energade (not as sweet). Used caffeine-free Hammer gels once in a running race, thought it worked quite well. Willing to try Hammer products (caffeine-free) again!

In my only 24 hour I just drank what they had in the dispensers... Have no idea what it was, but delicious it was NOT!

Used Powerbar at Ironman... but if you take anything from USN , Fit, Biogen and all the rest you should be fine. Which 24 hour race is this, December? If it is you have more than enough time to experiment with options.

And to add to agteros, eat something small evey hour or so. Bars, bananas, jellytots, nuts...

I used Fit Duratrain for recovery at 24hour last year and after each stage at Epic recently ......

Did it work well in the context of some of the big days you guys had?

thx for the feedback guys. The 24hr race is actually this weekend in parys. Its the Ride Magazine Eastern Skies 24hr race.

 

I ususally eat some bananas before and after a race and also like to eat some skippy from the tub. "No skippy no cycling".

 

Someone also told me that black cat peanut bars does wonders. Will give that a try as well. Only want touse the supplement drinks during the riding and for quick breaks in between.

for any 24 hr the best is either:

COFFEE

or

BEER

taken after every lap.

 

Double doese after every night lap, washed down with brandy.
