Novel yes, but quirky? how so? I've had 5 years good service from a 2004 model DLR that did the Epic nogal, okay besides the seizure in Hogsback which was my negligence. And I could replace all the parts that got totalled (plates and races) - yes the plates serve as shims to get the right fit, but they are the bearing surfaces. If the needles were running on those milled flat surfaces on the Al fittings it surely wouldn't last long.

So the boot seal is not water tight. Water can infuse onto the lower surfaces and races. That's why you have to regularly snip that cable tie, pull the hood down and clean and re-grease 'daar onder'. You also need to look after the 'airfilter'.

No doubt if one follows the rules for major and minor servicing it will go on forever with no hassles. Bit like a diesel engined car.

If anyone wants docs on the range and maintenance of Lefties I got some on file here, can email them to you if you pm me. And if anyone has the Cannondale Lefty service manuals in pdf those would be highly appreciated by myself, Cannondale used to have them on their website but took them off because too much damage was being done by the self service brigade, so the story goes ..

Because they were given them. Epic, world XC champ, world marathon champ and SA champs are all on 2 legged forks.

Both mens and womans Epic classes plus the world XC and Marathon champs have also been won on Lefties.

That's probably why they made it a Lefty and not a Righty! Just as well, cant imagine my self riding a Righty.

The mass is so close to the center line, I don't know if it makes much difference to the dynamics of the bike

I have a couple of friends who are sold on the Lefty but are convinced they will not be able to ride a lefty equiped bike, it will just handle to weirdly. One of the guys at work bought a Cannondale and was adamant he would only ride it not looking down as he freaks out when he sees the front end. He now rides it no problem. I took to my Lefty like a duck to water.

I loved my 'dale with its Lefty when I had it, but I did find that when you raise your arms in a victory celebration it tends to pull a little to the left...

That right there is what concerns me. Even if you dont really feel that while riding with both hands on the bars, it must have a slight effect....?
