I saw on the giant US site that they are recalling all 2011 giant anthem 29ers....... Due to cracking at the weld between the seatpost and top tube. Funny that my reign cracked in exactly the same spot two years ago. I think the maestro design is mechanically not sound or they have some quality problems in taiwan where the frames are manufactured. Mazzorchi also had a QC problem with their forks a couple of years ago due to assembly / manufacturing in taiwan. hope dragons will sort you guys with new bikes....

As far as I know it is only a US recall. so won't apply to SA bikes.

Correction..... SA wont recall the bikes as they will loose to much money so lets screw the consumer AGAIN. The frames are the same, US or RSA..... Its the middle man thats diffrent.

surely with the new consumer act and everything one will have a good case to swap your 29er, or get your money back, since the goods are recalled in other parts of the world ,USA? other thing, does the LBS inform you that anthem 29ers are being recalled in the US? Surely that will kill the deal? Surely you can get into **** for selling defective goods under the new act?

I bought an Anthem so did a bit of research on this.

By no means am i the authority on this or sure i'm 100% correct (have not links to Dragon Sports) but as far as i know, one of the first batches of bikes that where made/sold (if you read the US recall it's only 370 frames) to customers in the States and Auz(could be else where too?) before they corrected the problem. Seemed to affect frames sizes S to L but not XL. Why initially we could only get our hands on only XL and had to wait for other sizes.

Pappa Bear, you need to read articles very carefully and not just jump to conclusions. That article was posted in September 2010! Why the hell post it now on the hub 7 months later?

It was the US consumer agency that did not trust the weld and that is why it was only recalled in the US. It is thus not applicable anywehre else in the world.

Yes I bough one and that even after I saw that recall. Lifetime warranty on the frame. I know a person that had a Giant (bought in 2002) that cracked and they replaced his frame with the latest Anthem (2011) frame within 3 days. What more do you want from a supplier/agent?

So what you saying is you dont mind buying a bike that might fail under you?

How about my one friend on a Ventana USA at 145kg with a massive crack and still riding it while waiting for a replacement. Extreme difference between a crack and a "total" failure like you might get with a plastic ooops carbon bike.

Also do some research and you will find that each and every single bike model on the market had a crack at some stage.

Ok so Giant RSA is in the clear and I am a bit slow....

Only saw the recall on the US site yesterday....... nobody said nothing and the bikes are selling in RSA and guess what I am not really trusting off LBSs.....

But I am wrong this time and are happy that none of us in RSA is being affected by this.

We got to look out for each other BECAUSE no one else will.

Cheers!
