Actually on a more serious note: I have always wondered about this type of thing as well as the Arab laws of hiding women behind veils etc. These laws are made by men. So, what they are saying when they make these laws is basically this, "Ladies, we as men are too weak and pathetic to control ourselves in you presence and so, because of this, you must suffer and be made to wear things not of your choice"

I quite agree with you...in conversation yesterday a friend told me of a very prevalent cancer in Muslim countries due to a lack of vitamin D...I haven't had time to look on the web if this is the truth or just some anti-Islam propaganda, never the less, if indeed so, male dominated and instituted religious boundries are killing women.

And we think life is tough! My kids get upset when I wouldnt buy them a play station.

I showed my kids the Christmas Dinner pic and the one where the kids are being sold, my gran put all her kids in an orphanage, she couldn't feed them.

I told my kids they should be very happy for what they have.

My mother-in-law, living in Italy after WW2, would get fruit as Christmas presents. Europe was not a good place after the war.

Interesting conversation this, I dated an Italian girl, whose dad was a war orphan...he was told things are good in South Africa, stowed away on a ship at age 14 and ended up in JHB early 50's. He found his presumed dead father in Johanneburg where he worked as a labourer. Lotsa hapiness later, they brought the remaining brothers and sisters, lived happily ever after.

Women seem to have changed over the last 60-70 years.....they seem sexier today than back then.

Back then you married for practical reasons: can she cook, clean and make babies by the dozens? All boxes ticked you're there like a bear, whether she was fat or thin
