No Flats sealant

Recommended Posts

I am Thinking of going tubeless on my brand new beautiful bike (a 26er, sorry about that), using the NO FLATS stuff I see advertised here. I like whole shpiel they give about its cool to use it with bombs and that.Has anyone tried the stuff out and is it as good as they say, or should I just go with the big brand, Stans? Any definitive , experience laden, and constructive advice for a newbie MBR will be much appreciated.

Also, to take things to their most embarrassingly basic level, what are benefits of going tubeless, and what are the cons, if any. Is it true that you can lower pressures on tubless. If so , why?

Many thanks.Harry

They are the "same" thing spelled differently . Both works great . The sludge brigade will tell you otherwise .

Harryn,

No Flats is a great product. The main reason why I use it is due to the fact that it doesn't dry up. It also has a grainy ingredient similar to Stan's which helps clog up holes.

It is a very thick liquid, similar to slime put in tubes. In other words it seals punctures slower( gets to the hole slower) than Stan's ( doesn't waste as much when a puncture is made ) but when it's sealed it's like it never was there.

What I also do is to mix it with a little bit of Zero Flats to make the sealant a bit more runny.

PROS: If done right, with the right tyre, you will get a lot less punctures. Lower pressure. Light weight.

CONS: Cost and skill of getting it done properly.

Welcome to MTB'ing Harryn! Tubeless is a must for mtb'ing. So starting with it from early will save you a lot of hassles. I use Sludge Ammonia Free sealant in my wheel. The work the fastes and don't damage your rims. Sure, they cost a little extra aswell.

The biggest thing you have to look out for when doing tubeless for the first time is to make sure you install the tubeless kit (if your wheelset is not UST) properly. Make sure the valve is sealed properly. Then put some soap on the tyre bead once you've put the tyre on the rim, before you inflate it with a compressor to seal it. The soap will also show any leaks in the bead.

Look at some of the videos on www.notubes.com. They use their product, but the basic principles shoen in the videos remain the same.

tons of discussions already had on the hub...check out the search function...

I used Stans, watched the videos on YouTube and followed them exactly. WAY easier than I thought!! Did have to get it done @ a filling station using their compressor...

my non UST rims and tyres are now running Tubeless - aroudn 800kms...

Benefits:

1. No punctures

2. lower tyre pressures

3. weight saving (supposedly)

Good luck mate!

Hey Guys if you are going to add anything to my sealant to make it more runny. Please only add pure Ethylene Glycol (10ml Ethylene Glycol per 300ml NO FLATS) . The product already contains Ethylene Glycol so the compostion of the product will not be affected.

We have very few complaints about the thickness of our product, but should you need to thin the product out I suggest you go this route.

I have used this product before. It seals well. I went for a ride on the west coast and you could see the blue stains from where the sealant had closed up some holes. When you get a hole bigger than a thorn (I got a glass cut in my nobby nics) you will need to BANG the tire on the floor as they show you in the video.

The only reason I stopped using was the fact that I couldnt get any more of the sealant last year but supply has been sorted now. (I am trying a different product at the moment)

It works as good as they say it does.

1. Ok lets be clear there is no such thing in the world of MTB as a no puncutre solution, even with tubless you can still get sidewall cuts, snakebites etc. However that said, I havent had any issues no tears no cuts and no burps :). Though one day i will hit glass or a really sharp rock and then I will need to pull out the ol R10 note and the tubless repair kit.

2. Can run them at much lower pressures and this with most tires will give you oodles of grip and a softer ride.

3. This is relative, and not much of a wheight saving unless you take some risk, I use to run the conti race king / MNT king UST combo at about 750 and 800 grams per tire. I know changed to the tubless ready X-king / MNT king 2 combo's (which would be the equivelant of a TNT or tubes no tubes tire. the new tires weigh in at 480 and 500 grams respectivly. So yeah major weight saving about 420grams which in bike terms is a lot. However event hough these tires have a tubless bead, and people run them tubeless mostly without issue, the sidewalls are thinner, so they will be more prone to cuts and tears.

Admittedly the only reason i went with the lighter race sport version was because it was impossible to get the UST versions while in the UK last month. however from first impressions they will run without any issues. I would however recommend that you go with full UST tires to begin with, to minimize any chance of failure, and less on trail repairs.

Ive only ever used stans since it works and has worked perfectly for me no need to go look at anything else. Just top them up every couple of months and bob's your aunty.

Happy trails. :)
