Bike mags need sample bike from manufacturers to do a review. So long as mark up on 29'er continues to be ginormous (with the fashion conscious crowd coninuteing to swallow this) no manufacturer in his right mind will ever send a bike mag a 26'er sample.

In MBUK they are not testing any 29ers at the moment. All their longterm bikes, up to a year and not a Saturday afternoon like in SA, are 26". But then again, they are testing mountain bikes and not dirt road bikes.

It is amazing how regional the 29er phenom is - the US is all about 29ers, the UK is 26er duallie territory and SA seems to be a mixture of the two.

Oooh, that's going to leave a mark .. :)

29er is just the latest internet tool for people to hate stuff. Remember the HT versus duallie debate? People stopped marginally short of going over to people's houses and beating them with a stick if they rode too much or too little suspension.

Mamps is taking this whole 29er thing a little too seriously!

Ya noticed that as well, end of the day it's much of muchness and people must just what works for them. Each has their merits, it's upto the individual to look through the hype and decide what best suits them.

Kinda like that our scene has such a mix.

Unfortunately Mampara is a bit ignorant in his "SA afternoon test" remark though.

Although one thing we don't really get to do locally though, is a proper long term test. Mind you, local publications also don't quite have the budgets of many overseas publications, who are more established.

The other day in Jonkershoek I was amazed at how many okes drive all the way there to ride up and down on the jeeptrack... it was like they were unaware of the singletrack heaven just to the left and right of the jeeptrack...what is up with that? Has everyone gone insane!

I'm sure the last penny farthing riders also claimed that those darned new fangled safety bicycles were a fad and would never catch on. Like the DI2 system never catching on and yet there is campi into the market with their own electronic system. Progress is Progress. Marketing is Marketing
