Probably opening a can of worms here, and I am sure everyone has a different opinion...

BUT...

What is generally regarded as the hottest road bike at the moment?

I guess if price was anything to go by, the Pinarello Dogma would be right up there.

I realize that most of the top of the range bikes are separated more by grams than by standout sex appeal.

Top in what regard?

Lightest - custom bike (google, there are many weight weenies)

Stiffest - probably not the lightest one

Most expensive - custom bikes, ferrari, lotus and some other weird ones spring to mind.

Best handling - according to who?

Pinarello was voted bike of the year 4 years in a row now between the Prince and Dogma

Best... value for money, best... speed for money, best ..... smallest financial pain in case of loss ... :D :D

Frame is nice and stiff for crit racing as well (not that I do much of that tough), best durability, ability to handle lifes little knocks....

All of the above:

My second hand Scott Speedster S6 (without the Garmin on it ;) )

Although my Raleigh Humber is right up there if 'racing' does not enter the equation

It's funny that you mention the Dogma and separation by grams. Dogmas are around 200-300g heavier than anything else in their price category. In fact, there are alu frame modules that are lighter than the Dogma.

Edit - adding some weight numbers from Competitivecyclist.com:

Dogma frame, fork and seatpost: $5,499; 1,845g

Bianch Oltre frame, fork, seatpost: $4,999; 1,672g

BMC Team SLR01 frame, fork, seatpost: $3,850g; 1,470g

Scott Addict R1 frame and fork, Thomson Masterpiece SP: $2,893; 1,398g

What happened to the Colnago brand?

Those bikes were in my dream bike list for years and years, but over the last few years, they haven't really featured. I'm not saying they are not good bikes, but they used to be in the pinarello league, but IMO nowhere near any more...

During the TOSA, Team type one were on Colnago's......beautiful bikes
