I'll have to get a new crankset at the end of the year. Now im thinking...... should i buy a new 9 speed crankset with std round rings or just replace the rings on my current XTR crankset with rotor Q rings?

 

What would these cost?

have them on my road bike but struggled with them on my mtb because of the unsmooth nature of peddaling. if you ride open roads on the mtb you wont regret getting them.

Q Rings are like biopace. Makes no discernable difference whatsoever. I have a set on one MTB, the only thing I notice is that the shifting isn't as good as standard round ones. With the cost of chainrings, you might as well just order an XT crankset and get a new BB at the same time. That's what I did...

I don't know.... I view something like a Rotor ring only beneficial on race day... If you train with it you will get used to it, and then where is the benefit? Same thing with training with a very light bike or wheelset, I do not see the benefit if you want to improve your racing time.

If you are still racing for time then you are wasting your money. When you use stuff like this and deep section wheels and power meters, you race for position. And then I don't mean 5052nd position in the Argus.

Ok cool! That takes care of the rotor rings issue. About changing my crankset now: Should i replace the chainrins with XT chainrings (i find the XTR chainrings are priced stupid); Just buy truvative Noir carbon crank or maybe buy a XX triple blade crankset since they are cheaper than a XTR crank. They are 10 speed but im sure you can run them on a 9 speed groupo. The blade ratio might just be a problem then.........
