kosmonooit Posted July 14, 2011 Share Really cant see how any adapter is going to be allow you to fit a 38.1mm (1.5") shaft into a 28.8mm (1 1/2") orifice in a headtube without extensive frame modifications ie cutting off headtube and welding on larger one (miracles not withstanding) Edited July 14, 2011 by kosmonooit

NotSoBigBen Posted July 14, 2011 Share Sorry about the quality of the pics but thanks to Graham at Cyclehub (Rietvlei zoo farm Alberton) - He was knowledgable and more importantly willing to go to the trouble of getting the part and helping to fit it. I spoke to most bike shops around JHB and it ranged from no never heard of it .... to heard about it but no idea where to get it. That includes most of the big as well as specialist shops around! AndreZA Posted July 14, 2011 Share Okay, that is a tapered steerer. The original question is, can you fit a 1.5" non-tapering fork in a 1 1/8 straight head tube. Edited July 14, 2011 by AndreZA
jimmy hardtail Posted July 14, 2011 Share No you cant. The fork wont fit in the head tube .
AndreZA Posted July 14, 2011 Share No you cant. The fork wont fit in the head tube . Then why does a tapered fit with that external bearing cup? Can't they run an external for the top aswell?

NotSoBigBen Posted July 14, 2011 Share Then why does a tapered fit with that external bearing cup? Can't they run an external for the top aswell? From what I saw today you are correct sir, no reason why you can't use the same cup at the top
