How I feel about the Yeti too, nice looking bike, I wanted one but none were available at the time, so I bought the Yeti.

What chain-keeper you got there.

It's an old Mountain Speed. Very similar to the Dartmoor Simple chain guard: http://dialdbikes.co.za/dartmoor-simple-chain-guide.html

+1... a welcome addition to my morewood stable, anytime!

I was pretty bummed when the Shovas and Mbuzis were discontinued...

so for my AM bike I was forced to buy a plastic Dale in stead. If/when that dies... I'll have my eyes on the Sukuma or Jabula.

To be honest I was looking for an AM rig and took it (1) because I got a great deal, (2) i love the cnc'd rear triangle, and (3) having an AM rig would excuse me from doing any longer than 35km xc rides with my mates..... I am still however a total newb and my skill level doesn't justify having it. Pretoria is quite flat and apart from the downhills and maybe Fonteine/Groenkloof (which tbh I think you don't need anything more than your childhood R700 Makro Raleigh for) i don't really know where to ride? Any recommendations?

Are you sure you have ridden all the trails at Groenkloof and Fountains? There are some sections where I'm very happy to have 150mm of travel... There are also some technical trails at the Monument but I haven't been there yet myself.

OK so mine is not an all mountain bike, but it is a trail bike that meets the first post's requirement of 120mm + travel.

140mm travel front and rear.

This is my do-it-all bike, I use it for XCO's, XCM's, Ultra Marathons, trail riding and some of the routes I ride can definitely be classified as all mountain.

Very capable bikes which punch well above their weight.

Edit to add pic.

Pretty sure I have ridden most of the trails at Fonteine except for the drop inn and gap jump I think Patches? showed earlier. They look fun and I'm thinking of restoring them. And your'e right, the extra travel and slack angle gives confidence. Surely more fun, but you could easily do all that on a hardtail, might even be faster.

Groenkloof feels like a waste except if your'e into torture and all that. Don't get me wrong; some of the uphills are quite technical, but that's not why we post in the Gravity forum. It's like most of the trails are pointed in the wrong direction... I hate peddling uphill on a trail to only find a jeep track that takes you back down at a snails pace. I am pretty sure even a few of the xc guys feel the same way. The trail builder should be shot!

Anyway off topic. Show those AM bikes!

My bonny this morning in Tokai... i fell inlove with her all over again.

Finally got to ride my bike on terrain that its made for and away from excuses for technical singletrack found in Gauteng, nothing compares to the fun i just had in Tokai. You guys have an absolute gem here and the trail builders deserve a big pat on the back, those trails are absolutely insane. Please come build abit up country...

The next 3 weeks of riding cant go slow enough

Wow, some shweet rides on this thread!

Here's my 575 (146mm travel), I use it mostly for places like Van Gaalens and King's Kloof or whenever I'm lucky enough to get south of the Vaal ;)

I only really got it dialled once I fitted the Lyrik (160mm), and can't live without the Reverb :)

These days it's a "tug o' war" between this and my Tomac Flint SS though, can't wait 'til Winterton!

Nice bike

The JHB Critical Mass looks to have alot of Lycra clad riders ... the CT CM though is always dominated by jean pant wearing hippies.

Not mine, but I thought I'll share it here...

We had a couple of FPK and AKing fans riding their retro style bikes...
