I'd rather not get into this debate - same as yesterdays thread where blows were exchanged & it ended up with naming & shaming & & & so who really care's if there are some cyclists crossing white lines / few or no ambulances / marshalls or no CSA rules being abided to etc...

 

Hey U screwed 10 ways to Sunday because U want to race / pay your entry fees and shut up ... If U fall / accident because of your stupidity so what is CSA going to be at your side ........me thinks not ... Thank U very much.

cheetah, i agree 100% with you.

 

chris, you must understand that there is a cost to each and every thing/person present at events - there simply cannot be an ambulance every few meters and officials with each and every dumbass who is crossing over the white line. i do agree that there should always be "roving" motorbike marshals to keep riders in check and call for emergency assistance. here in gauteng more and more organisers are realising this and calling on the biking community to assist. some use clubs and others use ThinkBike (a safety awareness campaign in the biking community). hopefully the WC organisers will start to follow suit soon. this doesn't, however, absolve us cyclists from using our brains and riding safely, responsibly and in accordance with the rules and regulations and laws covering the event. we must also stop always trying to point fingers at others for what has gone wrong even when it is another cyclists fault. it is the organisers fault if there are no water tables, cars drive among the cyclists, etc etc, but cyclists riding among the cars and medics attending to other issues and thus not being right there when there's an accident can not be blamed on the organisers.

 

pantani, doll, your argument that we "must understand the psyche of the racers" and thus forgive them when they break the rules could result in serious bloodshed on saturday when I scoff the whole damned choccie cake in the car and then use your own argument against you when you want your slice... you must just understand my psyche of comfort eating when all alone in the car while you lot are having fun on your bikes!!!!!!!

 

(p.s. "no bike" is no excuse for a regular hubbers ride rider to be missing from the most important hubbers ride of the year - make a plan!!!!)

People want to talk road safety, then preach it to the unconverted masses of fun riders... Licensed riders, well I think they have voted with their silence, they want to be accountable for themselves... Evil%20Smile

 

Now, where does that put us as a fraternity? Very divided it seems. Can the divisions be fixed? Absolutely yes... But I don't believe that organised races are the place to fix them. Yes, the general public forms their opinions about cyclists from their conduct, Therefore if we want the public to see us as law abiding cyclists who don't cross white lines, then remove the racing from races and we can all go on mass rides where there are no prizes and no competitions and no category winners, just cyclists out using and enjoying the road responsibly.

 

Cycling safety is about education. People need to be educated about it. I doing believe that tackling it in races is getting to the root of the problem, it's part of the problem but not the root of the problem... If you want to fix something, then you need to get to the root of the problem...

The following needs to be asked of officialdom and race organizers. Is a race debrief held and action plans tackled emanating from this meeting, I believe it is not been done simply by having the same issues raised over and over again. Surley the oganizers are RESPONIBLE for the before and after issues of the event and the Chief Commissiar during the event hence when the debrief is done and they merge their reports they will highlight these matters and tackle them head on to ensure the next event is done with improvements added thus enhancing the integrity of the organizers sponsors officials and last but not least the cyclists.

 

 

 

Having said this there must be clear and concise rules applicable to all(Elite and social racers).Race organizers accountable for the event and cyclists accept the terms and conditions for entry no if's and but's as is happening now. Let us start working in harmony and find solutions to the problems not add more misery to it.

I dunno' date=' I've been warned to stay away, I found a cracked helmet on my lawn this morning as well!?[img']smileys/smiley36.gif" align="absmiddle" alt="LOL" />I haven't got a bicycle at the moment but I should hopefully have one by the weekend... So hoping to be there if the bike is built in time...

I see your point here, but then when one of the licensed riders gets flattened by a car or truck the rest of them had best shut the f*ck up about it. They were there by their own choice so best they live with the consequences of that decision!!

And that's my point.... Pro teams will tell you that... But it's useless speculating on what they may or might not say, I'd rather get their position on racing and safety... We all know what is right and wrong, however they will offer you a different view on what in their opinions is acceptable during racing... You might say that their position is stupid, and quietly behind your back they will tell you to get lost...

 

So, I feel they should be taken to task... We can't preach road safety but allow the Elites to get away with murder!!! So I take exception to some poor folk going round the mountain on the wrong side of the road being singled out and called stupid. Yeah it's stupid... duhhhh! But let's sort it out from the top to the bottom, the head to the tail... I'm sure every contracted rider in this country has found himself on the wrong side of the road at some point in his career... Stupid clutch! What was he thinking of! Shame on them!

 

Ban them! ban the lot of them!!!! Angry

Chris old boet, a cyclist may be genial and verrry intelligent but when he places his ass on a bike saddle he becomes dumber than a blonde secretary!!!!!!! Far past stupid because his brain closes up and he starts thinking with his b@lls!!!!!

 

This exemplifies the stupidity of cyclists who try to think with their testosterone muddled brains. How stupid must you be to "comfortably" cycle down the twisting roads in a mountain pass on the wrong side of the road!!!!!! Come on............... admit that you are dumb@asses!!!!!!! take the responsibility and stop blaming others for your lack of intelligence!!!!!!

Ok...I am a licensed rider, and have been since 1990. In 1995 we were doing a race where we were warned not to cross the white line by the Race Comissaire mr Jan De Waal. During the race we repeatedly crossed the white line so as to avoid the gutter, and each time the officials car 'hooted' to warn us. But we paid NO attention. Eventually, the official car pulled alongside and they informed us that the race was now cancelled, and that nobody would get a result, or prize money. The race sponsor backed them in light of the riders blatant disregard of safety, and road rules.

 

I agree that RACING cyclists dont give a s#!t, and its terrible that it is like that. I think the organisers already have their hands full with trying to keep the roads safe...Teams/clubs and coaches should really try to keep the riders educated.

 

Years ago we had a rider called Andrew Reeve's that was forced onto the other side of the road in the closing Kilo's of an East Rand race...and he hit a car head on.

 

NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!!

 

 

 

But I do agree...laws need to be observed, and we (contrary to popular belief) do not own the road.

No, let compare this PRO Cycling attitude to earn their bread and Milk money, (not much, lets say R10k per race, or R20k per BIG race)

 

 

 

In rygby they earn R125,000 per test match.

 

 

 

If Sckalk put his hands in the scrum, he gets penalized, if he than do a high tackle, he get penalizEd, and then he tackle a guy, slow the ball down, and GET A YELLOW CARD.

 

 

 

Then after 10min, he came back , do a high tackle, and (OH!!! NO !!!), NOW ITS A RED CARD.

 

 

 

Its called "RULES"

 

 

 

That night he gets a 3game suspension, he misses now out on R375,000.

 

 

 

So, what make the so called PRO Cyclist special, to allow them to brake the rules or ride how they want?

 

 

 

In the "PRO" world our locals are last on the list of sports big earners..... (is that why they think every R300 per league win, R200 for second is worth loosing a life?popeye2007-12-05 03:57:08
