This sounds like a daft question, but I wonder if anyone can tell me where I can find a Forum to add to my website? I have Tablemountainbikers.co.za and would like the guys on the mailing list to interact with each other, same as here on the Hub. I am not a IT specialist and am a bit wary of signing up to a service which costs money and I have no idea whether I will get what I paid for.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi there

Why don't you rather point them here, have them interact with all the other Mtb guys via this list, instead of dividing the groups our there, consolidation of numbers is strength.

I have a website with 200 names on a mailing list and I want to get a Forum programme I can add to my site so that the members can interact directly with each other.

Something like the Hub, but on a much smaller scale.I see sites in the web offering a Forum, but for a monthly fee and I just don't trust the sites, unless they are referred by someone I know has experience. The Forum could be hosted somewhere else ,another site, and I have a link on my site which direct you to the Forum.

Awsme, I get your point, but we ride on Table Mountain and I can hardly imagine that a mountain biker from Gauteng is interested in a conversation around what time 2 guys want to meet up for a ride. Most of my members use the Hub and therefore would be sharing information with the Hub community as well. I don't see any dilution occurring. If you want to find out more about what we do , I would be happy to put you on my mailing list.

kandui - We could quickly set up a dedicated forum here for it and could provide you with code to display the current topics on your site. Your users would need to come here in order to post new topics or replies until we could find a way to offer them that functionality directly from your site. We'd make you the moderator for that forum to have control of the discussion there.

Alternatively you could look at a free package like phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) - it's very well supported and widely used, but will require a bit of know how to set up.

phpBB or myBB. Both free open source forum software packages.

I have just set up a forum on a website using myBB - seems to work okay and wasn't TOO hard to set up - and I am not a technical person.

That is the best option IMO. I have discussed this with Admin before and it really is the best using an established platform that is well visited. It is also a great way to get interest from guys who are in CT but are not on your database.

Hi there

We have members from all over the country on he forum, nothing stopping you from having a section dedicated to rides and meets for cape town people.

I use to run a quad forum, QuadTorque where we had the same thing, people all over the country, all wanting to chat about quads, but then at the same time, each wanting to discuss rides plans their side of the world, by keeping it here you allow us to see it, enabling me to think, hmm if I go down to Cpt this weekend let me join these guys, instead of being on another url, another server, another username.

All up and running. Busy changing some settings. When I seem to have everything 100% I will post the URL and maybe some of you can register and try it out for me. It will be a scootering forum, well that is the plan

Yes, I agree, forums are hard work to get going. Rather integrate with an existing community if at all possible.

Admin

I don't want to have to approve every post. Do you know where the setting is for this?

Thanks
