scuzzy Posted September 15, 2011 Share So, my Garmin Forerunner finally decided that it has served it's purpose, a suspected "dead" battery made me take it to Garmin, Cape Town. After initially waiting for a while, the confirmed my fears that it is "irreparable", but, they will offer me a new replacement device at a discount. They initially offered met the Forerunner 201, a "watch like" device. My first reaction was that this cannot replace the 305, it doesn't even look the same, but after reading up on it and seeing what the price is for a new one, I changed my mind, however, I though I will take a chance and ask them for a price on the 310XT, much more of an overall training device, got the price at more than 50% less that what I would pay for it. I paid for the order on Monday afternoon, thinking that if I want it by the weekend, I need to get a move on. Yesterday morning I mailed them to make sure that I will have it on Friday, we do live in good old SA you know. The reply was here is the waybill number and telephone number of RAM Couriers, and I can speak to them, I though, here we go. I phoned them and to my surprise they said it is on its way and sure as hell, by 12 yesterday I had my device. SO, next thing was to order the "conversion kit" for cycling and running, I decided to give the Garmin online shop a go, beats trying to find it at any other local shop and dealing with a salesman that doesn't even know what you are talking about. Placed the order at about 2 yesterday afternoon. Package delivered at 8:30 this morning. I am really blown away by this, very good service Garmin SA, thank you. Grebel Posted September 15, 2011 Share I recently had a problem with the HR strap on mt Edge 305. It stopped transmitting. Changed the battery, but no luck. Checked CRC and some local shops for a replacement. They were expensive to say the least. I phoned Garmin DBN to see if I could get it repaired. The technician I spoke to (His name was Gift. Very appropriate!!) said that it wasn't worth repairing and that I should get a new one. Asked him for a price and he suggested bringing in the faulty one which I did. Turns out the battery in mine was faulty... He replaced the battery and gave me a "new" second hand strap as well just in case I had any more problems. All at no charge!!! Garmin will definitely get support from me in the future

scuzzy Posted September 15, 2011 Share @tunariaan, are you dealing with Garmin direct, or did you send it to them via a store, ie Cape Union Mart, Due South, etc? @tankman I think that one doesn't have heart rate, if I am not mistake
Polo Posted September 15, 2011 Share My forerunner's strap broke earlier this year. Took it Garmin in Muizenburg and they replaced it in 5 minutes, no questions asked, free of charge. Great service

scuzzy Posted September 15, 2011 Share @tunariaan, just trying to brainstorm this with you The guys in J'Burg got the watch already? And it is taking them 6 weeks? Surely if they have it and agree that there is some sort of fault on it, they must be able to tell you what they're doing about it, are they repairing it, is that just taking long? I would think that somewhere someone is not doing their job, cause ig averybody experience good service, the something is wrong
Tankman Posted September 15, 2011 Share @tankman I think that one doesn't have heart rate, if I am not mistake You are mistake That is the 500 not the new unreleased 200. Just a new colour. The 200 doen not have HR and cadence
