You are divided according to age - its not a mass start

All men 0 - 40 years start in the same wave. 3000 entries. The bulk of the entries are men 0 - 40. Thats how I got to my 1700 estimate.........

First wave is the pro's then go 18 - 29 then 30 -39 then 40-really old then the ladies

Nope, first PRO's then 18 - 39, then 40+ Men, then Ladies, then Teams

Be prepared for a cup of HTFU. Those mens starts have more than 1000 in each group.

No there are 3000 entries in total - Wave 3 will be about 929 athletes from 40 - 74

OMGosh 3000? Thats a lot and great to see so many entries.

Zurich 70.3 the max entries are 2000 and when i did it they were sold out +/- 6 months before the event.

I think entries were sold out for this race in November 2 months before, I also think this is the first time they have filled up to capacity which shows tri is growing in South Africa :)

So we get a (and give a couple) of PK's during the swim....for me the interesting bit wil be the cycle. 3000 people with 10m gaps creates for two long lines (assuming everyone is in the process of being passed or passing). We need to be very careful with the drafting and blocking rules.

Generally I have found and I hope this remains the same people to be quite forgiving on the swim, its a long way to go and nobody wants to get hurt. I think most of the kicking and stuff goes toward the front of the bunches where they guys are pretty competitive, toward the middle and back things are chilled. I remember seeing a guy doing back stroke last year. The best thing to do if you feel someone swimming into you is to either stop swimming altogether or just stop kicking that way nobody gets hurt everyone says sorry and gets on about their business.

The bike works itself out, not all 3000 are on the road at the same time. The only real congestion is at the first big climb and the marshals tend to be forgiving as there is not advantage to be gained from drafting when everyone is doing 12km an hour.

Wave 2 is the big one about 2617 athletes from ages 18 - 39

Check me if I'm wrong but it's actually closer to 1300. For some reason one guy got a much higher number than the rest.

I can't find anything in the rules about not being allowed to randomly attack other athletes etc. You are however NOT allowed to litter so beware.

LOL leave the other athletes alone, rather spare your "attack" energy for the race you're going to need it - this one is not easy. Yes you get a DQ for throwing your **** on the ground outside the "Green" areas, should be like this in all races
