I Just got the new gps unit i - gotu lately and decided to take it on a test ride in Botswana.

What a great little gadget, it tracks your route and if you have a go pro cam or any other cam you can link the photos to the route.

Once I downloaded the data to my computer the amount of data recorded was great. The i-gotu suite downloads your route on google maps which is quite cool.

Once your pics are also downloaded to your pc they can then be uploaded to the i-gotu suite and liked to your route, makes it great for viewing what you went through at certain points on the route.

There's also an option to view it in 3D.

Here is a link of the ride so you can check out some of the feature........Its a must have unit!!!

are you referring to the gt800? at R1000 it certainly looks like a nice cheap alternative to the garmin and even the bryton. I am needing to keep a record of my training for sani next year, and busy considering getting a device to do just that.

the only down side to this unit seems to be that is doesnt read heart rate or cadence, otherwise it does look very tempting, unless i've missed somewhere that one can buy these sensors?

yeah - although i am not too bothered with that. I suppose for an extra 800 you get that option.

Still interested in investigating some more. Would still like to see this in the flesh. From the HD photo on their website it looks a bit plasticy

I've been using this little gps for about 6 months now. Bought it from the suppliers in Taiwan, thought it might be worthwhile to import them as a cheaper option to Garmin etc., but I paid about R800 including shipping, VAT and customs, so not really worthwhile trying to resell them.

The unit is quite small and yellow bits are rubber, seems good quality. Its completely waterproof (used it in pouring rain, no problems) and the battery lasts forever (did the Transbaviaans in 15 hours, had to the back light on for about 6 hours and it lasted the entire race).

Just plug it into your computer to download and recharge, fairly user-friendly.

Only downside really is that it doesn't have the option to include a HR or Cadence sensor, so you will have to import the .gpx file into another program to combine it with HR data from different source.
