Audible Anarchy Posted October 6, 2011 Share My now least favourite employee decided to grab my roadbike and go for a joyride without me knowing today. Needless to say he bloody crashed the thing and now i have to get it sorted b4 amashova next weekend. Luckily damage is more aesthetic than anything else. (he took the brunt of it my donating alot of skin and a nice bump on the head) so i need help re: the following: 1) he tore the hood over the sti lever apart - can you buy replacement rubber hoods? the lever seems to be ok aside from scratches etc... the little plastic bit that sits between the lever and the bottom edge of the rubber hood is toast too. necessary to replace? 2) there are paint chips from where he hit the tar - a carbon frame. frame seems ok, cant see any cracks etc... is it possible to get touch up paint done on carbon frames? do i need to respray? anyone know where i can get this done? 3) handlebar tape - duh - buy and replace 4) bars, jockey etc... all seem ok (thank goodness) aside from some nice scratches - is it possible to touch up scratched metal on a groupset? from the little 10km test ride i took it for to asess the damage, all seems in working order from what i can tell - should i still take it for a service in case? it was serviced around 4 weeks back. the guy earns peanuts to be honest and as much as i wanna punish the guy by making him replace all the parts he scratched up, id like to try keep the repair work to an absolute minimum for his wallets sake. any advice would be appreciated.cheers Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tiny K Posted October 6, 2011 Share Take the bike in to your LBS for an assessment - they should be able to see / check for structural damage (I hope). Hoods can be replaced yes. That cover piece is going to be difficult to replace - sourcing them is the difficult part. As much as you want to keep the costs to a minimum, it is always good to get an unbiased view on the damage. Scratches are going to remain unfortunately, unless you can somehow polish it out. The oteher piece you are reffering to is the flight deck, net a necassary bit to replace but more really for the looks and should also be available at any good bike shop. 2) You do get touch up paint but only in basic colours like red or black, nail polish also does the trick. 3) No brainer mate! 4) Besides water sanding paper there is quite little you can do besides replacing parts to actually remove scratches from metal. Taking it to your local bike shop is never a bad idea, don't book it for a service but specificly ask for a crash assesment. Massive range of colours, though leaning mostly towards millions of shades of grey and green. I'd try some enamel paint and then seal it in why a layer of clear nail varnish.
