What bike - Tarmac SL4

SL7

Recommended Posts

It's not about the bike or is it about the bike?

Check out the attached tables, I would say it is about the bike - the SL4!!!

From what I've read the SL4 is going to be very good.

But according to Bicycling the C'Dale Evo is the same just better, and it is aimed "squarely at the crotch of specialized new SL4"

besides, being that stiff may make for an uncomfortable ride.

The SL4's numbers look nice. Who did the testing?

One can't help but notice that it is the only 2012 frame in the test - it would be better to compare it to the Dogma 2, Super6 Evo etc.

some of the other bikes are even 2010.

all in all not a very good test, specialized must have done this test themselves

Possibly, but the surprise must be the Dogma, scoring pretty well (except for the weight issue, but can easily be built to 6,8kg).

As for the Cannondales - the SS Hi Mod is said to be stiffer than the EVO as the EVO has some clever engineering making the reear more compliant (read flexy) to absorb road vibrations etc. Cannondale engineers claim it makes the bike faster, but some pros apparently prefer the stiffer SS HM. This is hearsay, but from a pretty reliable source.

The SL4 is a very good bike I am sure, but does not stir the emotions, and ai - that headtube. (My opinion only)

Yeah, Fakes, the SL4 stats are impressive. You gotta get the upgrade!

If I was a Spez rider, I would definitely get one.

Remember that the 2011 Cannondale Super Six Evo, as Zac.A said, is the Bike Of The Year in Europe.

It would be interesting to see how that would compare.

I don't care if the stats were rigged, I am still getting one!

I do not expect anything less!

I've got an SL3, and that is one stiff bike. It climbs like crazy, the power transfer and responsiveness is amazing. It's just one hard ride though. It turns the smoothest tar road into what feels like a corrugated dirt road from hell. I feel more broken after a 5hr LSD on the SL3 than after an Epic stage!

That said, I love it.

I like visual imagery.

Let's add some to this thread:

Yep, those stats are straight out of the 2012 Specialized Media pack. And were done a few months back before there were 2012 competitors' bikes to test the SL4 against.

But to their credit the testing facility in California really does test everything to catastrophic failure. Mixed emotions walking through a room full of perverse torture equipment and seeing a brand spanking new SL4 or Venge or Epic or Stumpy on a rig getting flexed a gazillion times... But that's how they get the numbers... squeezing every part of every bike (competitors included!) till it pops!

haha, quite impressive to compare your latest and greatest frame against frames designed in 2009 & 2010.

Level playing fields...............yeah right.
