would you guys also be keen to start at 08H00 ??

Then all the rides in the centres can head off at the same time. Pretty awesome to know that we all riding at the same time (ok similar time) with the same goal in mind.

I got sent a link to a charity site that collects shoeboxes full of goodies. Please take a look and see what you all think.

That charity looks great. So what is the plan of action? Meet at the MM stadium and leave at 8am to ride where? What route will we take? I am assuming that this will be a slow family orientated type of ride. Kids on BMX's, Dad's with kiddy seats on their bikes etc. If so, count me in! Maybe we could have a Hubber corner to meet all the Durbam hubbers face to face

yep. thinking meet 8am at the stadium, slow enjoyable kid-friendly ride down to the point along the beach front, coffee stop at uShaka and then back. It's flat, about 12km's there and back. maybe hubbers could come 15min early to meet each other. we can't really have marshals on the route, so would be cool if hubbers could act as unofficial marshals and shepherd everyone along the way.

Tuesday morning update.

There doesn't seem to be any objections from the Durban hubbers on the charity so I'm gonna go ahead and announce the charity of choice....

Santa's Shoebox it is...

I'll be contacting the charity today to see how best to arrange getting the box's around. I'll also be posting an invite in the events section of facebook as well as here in due course. As mentioned I'm going to invite the Durban Critical Mass guys as well as the Durban hubbers (since it would be cool to have more than just the 5 of you who responded). Finally I'm hoping to get a poster or two put up in a few bike shops (if possible).

which reminds me, what are the rules governing the use of the hub's logo? admin? slowbee?

again, any suggestions/help welcome.

Quick update. Contacted Santa's Shoebox and they obviously quite happy to be the receiving charity. They've also offered up some of their members to assist where possible. I was thinking we should take them up on that to assist with taking in the shoeboxes. They've also sent me some art work which I'll use my extremely limited artistic abilities to turn into some kind of poster and then see if we can't get some company to print up a few to display in bike shops.

@Sepie: I would definitely appreciate any help! There is a distant possibility I may be working on the 16th, so need someone who can help the whole way through including on the day.

And that goes for anyone else who's willing to help. What's needed right now is a simple poster that features the logo of Santa's Shoebox and the Hub, and of course, "what", "where" and "when". And then if anyone owns a printing company, or has contacts that can have say 10 posters printed up for free that we can distribute?

The route I've got in mind is still the beachfront run. It was mentioned to me that the beachfront might be ridiculously busy on the 16th, but if we starting at 8am I think it should still be okay. Any suggestions welcome.

Right so it seems that we're all in agreement with charity and route?

As a reminder...

Charity: The charity is Santa's Shoebox. Please go to the website and read up on what it's about and how to go about packing the boxes and with what. Don't worry about registering just yet, I'm still waiting to hear whether we need to register each individual, or can just register as "the hub" and go from there.

Route: Meet at Moses Mabhida at 8am - can park at the stadium or even at the casino since it's nearby. Start the ride at 8:30am, this gives hubbers a chance to say "hi" and mingle. Also need to set up some "hub" marshals to help shepherd every one. Nice slow, easy ride down to uShaka Marine, with a break for coffee there - maybe the Wimpy? Then leave for the point for some posed pics (just cause we can) and then slow easy ride back to the Stadium. I don't think it'll take much more than 2 hours in total so plan for that.

As always, comments welcome. I'll be bumping this regularly from now till the 16th so no excuses for not turning up!
