AFAIK It was (partly at least) to allow more time and distance to be spent actually IN town center and to make getting there easier.

I got the impression that overall it was quite a tough ride for the novices - and that's not what CM is all about.

The aim of CM is to encourage people onto bikes, (respectfully) show the world how many of us there are, and never leave someone off the back.

If anyone wants to set up an alternate "hard" ride into Jo'burg I'd be up for it - throw in Hillbrow and we can practise our sprints - but it's not what a CM ride should really be about.

Want to start a weekly Joburg night ride at a fast pace, possibly also starting at Dunkeld (probably better to start in Greenside so we can get late night pizza and beer after the ride), maybe doing about 40kms or so including the city, at speed

We are trying Braamfontein out. If it doesnt work we will go back to Dunkeld. The problems with Dunkeld are eactly what Bonus has mentioned - this is about numbers, not distance or time. People who dont ride a lot (and who are not on The Hub) struggle with the ride to town from Dunkeld - add cold for the winter months and it will get very quiet. The ride from Braamies will be shorter but trust me the route is not short, and we get to see other parts of the city and surrounding areas - and we still stop for beer.

I am sorry I will be away, I like beer in Braamies whilst riding my bicycle. It reminds me of 5 years at Helpmekaar and sneaking into the Dev on the way home from school

So we meet at Dunkeld at 6, ride direct to Braamfontein for the 7pm start? I'll be there, with DD and Thug, anyone else welcome to join.
