When I started mtb in 2004 Jacques was the best and my 1st mtb hero, then in 2005 he disapeared off the radar completely untill recently. He is back in form and won the Isuzu 3 towers convincingly with teammate Brandon Steward.

Really happy to see you back Jacques!

I first saw him @ Woodridge (PE) Nationals. It was either '98 or '99. Not that I was a weak rider back then, but I was hitting this very steep climb in middle ring. Jacques would power up the hill in big ring without problems.

"If Jacques Rossouw (Itech Connect) should win the MTN Ride Crater Cruise ultra-marathon mountain-bike race in Parys tomorrow, he should thank his wife, Johanna.

She is the one who convinced him to resume his career as a mountain-bike professional.

The 30-year old Rossouw retired from active racing about seven years ago.

But everything changed when his wife, while surfing the internet, realized that her husband used to be one of South Africa’s best young mountain bikers.

“Why don’t you race anymore,” she asked him. That one question turned out to be the turning point in his cycling career.

With her encouragement and that of his friend and former boss, Shan Wilson, Rossouw began to train seriously again.

He even resigned his job with the blessing of his wife.

“I guess I am back in professional cycling for another six years,” said Rossouw."

Great to see Jacques racing again, one of the most talented mtb'ers SA has seen. Used to race against him as a Junior and u23, classy rider!

And a lekker guy to boot, him and brandon where cheering my partner and me on day2 coming to into the finish(made our day). Which pro's are that humble? Big respect for the crazy fast times they did and humility in a run away victory at the towers.

What a guy. I remember him at my first SA Champs in Tokai. Stood next to me at the bike check in row, chatting about slipping grips and riding in the mud. Only later realised that it is Jacques Rossouw, SA Champ. So humble. Later I saw him at the Wiesenhof 24hr. He apparently did the whole course in his big blade. He even cruised up and down the campsite in his big ring.

We like to thinl we are pretty decent riders, and wan't to command respect, and then someone like him cruises past while staying humble. I learned a lot from that.

Good luck Jacques!

Hope we have a strong contingent at the XCM world champs this year - Please enter at least Jacques Roussouw, Burry Stander, Kevin Evans, David George and perhaps even Max Knox and Jacques Janse Van Rensburg, who knows we could see a winner from RSA

+1. Was thinking the same thing. I am convinced one of these guys can take it, but my money will be on JR

+1 Thats my memory of JR, remember riding a XC national in PMB in 2002 and watching him climb in his big chain ring on climbs that i was spinning up on my 22.

Gr8 to see him making a comeback again
