U can't compare the 2, tendulkar and Lara are from another planet, they much like pointing could counter attack, they could win a test in 2 seasons on any surface, Kalllis and Dravid are the long distance runners they need 5 seasons to hurt a team. Just look at the big hundreds that the first 3 have, different types of player but if u only had 1 slot left in ur Sunday team the first 3 on my list would fill it.

Aus 16 years of world cricket domination was done without a single allrounder. 6 batters, including a wicket keeper who could bat and 5 bowlers. Probably the best side I've ever seen play.

if I had 3 slots open in my team I'll only choose Kallis everytime.

That Oz generation was special, I'll give it to them they were the best of that era, warne, bird, kasprowics, Gillespie (in his prime), etc. that era has passed look where they are now, just about yo-yoing for no.1, a season ago they lost ashes home & away, while trying to rebuild that "special generation" lost.

G'day sport, 16 years. you sure on that? purple patch was closer to about 5, and without a freak of nature called shane warne they would not have come close to what they achieved. but ja, no genuine allrounder - just a few part time bowlers(waugh brothers) and probably more runs from the tail than was normal for the era.

Muralitharan was a shocking fielder! :)

Not a bad side ...I would include Kallis instead of Haynes and then open with Lara or Gilly. Possible Steyn for Wakar - I know he is a lefty but McGrath (accuracy, line and length) Ambrose (Pace and bounce, fear factor bowler), Steyn (Swings it both ways at pace, good in all conditions)

have u ever seen better bowler with a ball that is 60 overs old Akram and Younis could get it to reverse like crazy.

Often with some assistance on the ball ...TV was different in the 90's. You didn't see nearly as much as now. Still rate Steyn higher - the grew u in sub continent conditions, he did not. He can perform on all types of surfaces .. also a better batsmen than both of them. I was just pulling your leg re the 12th man

Don't think steve waugh makes such a lofty list as a player alone. Sure he's got a good record as captain but it's not that hard to look good when you're always coming in at 200/2 and shane warne/mcgrath et al to make your bowling changes look good.

I think you pick the top 11 and then a captain, so throw in kallis and ponting can be in charge(the non drinking ricky). but in general world XI suck. the Aus vs rest of the world series proved that.

yeah but Pointing wasnt a good captain at all, the thing about steve waugh was he got stuck in and made runs when it mattered, I also considered BMT and Waugh personifies that.I always got the feeling he wasn't going to give his wicket away against us.

I loved to hate him...

Post 94 team I assume? I would probably leave out Big Mac for a specialist batsmen. Don't think there is a need for 3 all rounders. Maybe Darryl Cullinan? Or Bouch and let AB be a specialist bat.

Swap Adams for Harris and bring Bouch in for Mcmillan and that would be a team to watch for sure.

Just think Adams was more like Tahir in his consistency.

Would consider having Ashwell Prince in there instead of McMillan

think our best SA side would not include a spinner, lets face it they have all been useless, I would go with 4 seamers, Donald, stein, Fanie and Pringle.

Fanie record was incredible ... but his career was quite short. Brett Schultz if had stayed fit would walk into an SA side! Although Im biased
