Well that didn't last long.

Still though I think 208 is a bit out of reach on this wicket.

Big Vern is going to be a handful imho.

And Vern's number 6 goes down!!!

I could say I told you so but I won't [emoji12]

SA start second innings. All out for 96 first innings.

This thread started on an EPIC game.

275 test matches later, another EPIC was delivered.

What they can't paper over -

SA were a man down after steyn fell.

They had the best of the conditions

It will only get tougher in the highveld

Lowest targets not chased by India:

120 v WI, Bridgetown, 1997

176 v SL, Galle, 2015

208 v SA, Cape Town, 2018

221 v Pak, Bengaluru, 1987

Riveting cricket! I enjoyed the intensity from both teams throughout the match. Credit to the Newlands curator. This is such a good advertisement for Test cricket

Agreed, excellent test match! We'll done proteas!

For the next game I would just replace steyn with Morris. The afrikaans commentators also thought they should drop maharaj for phelakwayo, to go with an all out pace attack. Which I sort of agree with

More highlights in three days at Newlands than the 5 full Ashes tests.

I think we would do well in the long term to try take this freedom series as the rival to the Ashes

Get rid of the one day crap and give us more Test cricket

Microwave cricket will stay

Has its place

Yes he your point

Just enjoy good ol pressure in the middle with Test cricket

Pity about the Ashes being such an uneven contest

Duanne Olivier and Lungi Ngidi have been added to the squad in place of Dale Steyn.

Are they saying that Dale is as good as 2 players?

:whistling:

I feel so sorry for Dale, he has been out for so long and worked so hard to get back and he was on fire.

steyn has actually been remarkably injury free for a quickie throughout his career until now. He has broken down in his last two tests. I do find it odd that he came into the game under a cloud of match fitness, and then bowled the lionshare of the first innings.

to think he was a 21yr old bolter out of Jet's arsenal, guess who also made his debut in the same test in 2004?

Steyn lobbed down 16no balls in the first innings alone, he was that WILD!

so, let's get WAY ahead of ourselves here*.

What will it take to be #1 again?

We will need to beat India 3-0, and then beat Australia by at least 2 in our 4 test series in March.

   OR

if we only beat India 2-0 and then beat Aus 4-0.

*Let's just remember that England, yes lowly lowly England, PUMPED us 3-1 six months ago. With Moeen Ali man of the series.
