Patel in the role of T20 opener for some quick runs and daring stroke play.

16 off 15

What reflex by the lanky Makram to get hold of the ball at gully, I think.

What is the deal for slow over rate? Faf might get a ban for Aussie series?

Not like the Indians bowled quickly, only the second time ever they haven't played a spinner

I think it's time to abandon this farce

The captains and umpires are having a discussion now. Vijay is getting treatment and the umpires keep looking at the pitch...

Rabada to Vijay, no run, rapped on the left glove. Signals for the physio again. Lifts from a length and raps him as he looks to avoid it.

If they abandon the match the result should go to India. As the host country, we need to take responsibility for the pitch.

Agreed, flipping ridiculous and embarrassing.

Nope it'll go onto our respective records as a draw with an asterisk to indicate that the match was abandoned due to unsafe playing conditions. The host venue and host nation will receive hefty fines and a warning that could result in a ban if their is another incident within a specified timeframe.

Yes I know that is what would happen according to the regulations but I would prefer if we could own up to it as a country.

But Faf declaring our second innings on zero and forfeiting the game might get some betting people hot under the collar :)

"12:01pm, Lunch The umpires have taken the break and have hung around after the players have gone off. They're in conversation with the ground staff. Both Bethuel Buthelezi, the groundsman, and Chris Scott, the consultant, are now observing the pitch and the crack that's causing the issues."

"Firdose Moonda tells me from the ground that they're hearing that the likelihood of the Test being called off has diminished."

Calls for abandoning match have diminished

Cricinfo

6.4.1 If the on-field umpires decide that it is dangerous or unreasonable for play to continue on the match pitch, they shall stop play and immediately advise the ICC Match Referee.
6.4.2 The on-field umpires and the ICC Match Referee shall then consult with both captains.
6.4.3 If the captains agree to continue, play shall resume.
6.4.4 If the decision is not to resume play, the on-field umpires together with the ICC Match Referee shall consider whether the existing pitch can be repaired and the match resumed from the point it was stopped. In considering whether to authorise such repairs, the ICC Match Referee must consider whether this would place either side at an unfair advantage, given the play that had already taken place on the dangerous pitch.
6.4.5 If the decision is that the existing pitch cannot be repaired, then the match is to be abandoned as a draw.

You mean like Zoompie resigning? :whistling:

I think the reality is that this pitch will very fairly get a poor rating from the ICC and the next match against Aus will be under much scrutiny.

As for Faf nothing in the laws or the spirit of the game will allow for him to declare in the final innings. We will have to bat that IS absolutely guaranteed. However we don't have to make an effort to score the runs we get set as an target. Is this in the spirit of the game? Personally for me no. I'd like for us to go for the win. Could we perhaps get over aggressive and lose wickets cheaply? That I certainly wouldn't be against and it would, imho, be within the spirit of the game. As would admitting post match that this was indeed a poor pitch and that we let revenge get in the way of allowing for a fair contest. A bad pitch is one thing, one where the match was almost called off is another. This should absolutely never happen again.

Reckon recent Jozi heatwave has affected preparations.

It is agricultural work after all.

Hmmm
