Look, if the gods of cricket were in any way fair:

WE SHOULD WIN THE FLIPPING TOSS

Elgar due a big innings

Faf due a 50

Bavuma in good form

Rassie looking ok

QdK always a dangerman

Between them they should be able to rack up 300+.

Then the question is whether we can bowl the Poms out in the absence of Rababa - maybe Hendricks can do it?

They certainly very capable of doing doing so, however there really hasn't been much sign that this could happen in this match. I certainly hope that the batting sparks and that it has a positive knock on effect on the bowlers as well. Let's how tomorrow unfolds and take it from there.

Ja, i also want to know how we went from such a strong showing in the first 2 games to capitulating like a bunch of heartless amateurs. Pressure is probably the only difference and we didn’t cope whilst under the pump.

Let’s try and be positive. Viva Proteas Viva!

Agreed 100%. Your first batting innings helps set the tone for the remainder of the match. If you look at the second test of this series it backs up the point you're making. Added to that is the team that carries the "momentum" from the first innings generally places themselves in a strong position to challenge for the win during the second innings, which imho has been what has happened throughout this particular series. What has confounded me though is how we went from being able to almost bag a draw in the second test to playing some of the most insipid cricket I've seen during the third test. I am hoping against hope that our positive record at the Wanderers will help give Bouch and his coaching team a bit of respite from the current state of affairs, especially where the media and the uninformed fans are concerned.

Test 1. Poms were sick, let us bat first

Test 2. Under the gun the whole game, came closer to rescuing draw

Test 3. Don't want to talk about it

This will be one hell of a comeback if we can get the result.

we need 20 wickets, this doesn't help  at all!

8.27am Good morning all, welcome to the Wanderers for ESPNcricinfo's live ball-by-ball coverage of the fourth Test between England and South Africa. Where unfortunately Firdose Moonda has some rather unwelcome early news:

"Morning. It's pouring," she says. "And was for a lot of the night. Forecast not great for today."

Oh phooey. Never mind. We shall persevere. Stay tuned for breaks in the clouds!

Toss will take place at 13h00, play starts at 13h20.

Feedback from the pitch:

Looks a classic "lose the toss" deck

C'mon Faf, keep that record running.. ;)

Either way, we could see some fireworks in the first hour of play with a lively deck expected.

"1pm Faf loses the toss again! Root will bat"

Now he listens... figures hey.

so 7 tosses in a row for Faf to lose, 9 for SA.

Root batting might help us 1 bit, we need 20 wickets for the series, so more time now.
