Need a little advice here.

The RAC Tough One is happening in 2 weeks time on the 27th Nov. I'm really not sure if I should be doing it.

I do about 35km of running a week. I have run quite a few 21km's (Deloitte PTA very hilly 2h15). I run a 15km at least once a week consistently at about 10km/hr without too much of a sweat. Point is there's a difference between running a 21 and a 32 and the tough one is is very hilly up and down. So considering the km's I do every week would you say a 32km is feasible ? The cut off time is 4.5 hours ?

Oh yes and there's another consideration the Pretoria West Power station triathlon on the same day. I think though The Tough One would be more of a challenge.

yes, you will make it easily. I had a PB of 2.31 for a 21K, was running 25-30km a week and attempted it. Finished in 4hours. I was on for a 3.30 finish until I passed Cedar Square. Thats where I hit the wall and hobbled home. Awesome race, Awesome support along the road. Ran out of water at a couple of points but i'm sure they fixed that by now.

If you could do Deloitte half marathon in 2h15, you will comfortably finish the Tough one in under 4h30.

I have done 2x Tough ones and besides the Sunrise Monster 32km (I don't know if this still exists), the Tough one is one of the Toughest 32kays on the calendar, but I was still able to finish in under 4 hours... and I'm a pretty slow runner.

Go for it... what do you have to lose? :)

I am in exactly the same situation and after much consideration I have decided on the following:-

Saturday 26 November - 21km Tom Jenkins jog race and the Union building in Pretoria -- this is an awesome race

Sunday 27 November - Olympic Distance in Pretoria

Best of both worlds. You get a solid weekend of running, a very good open water swim training and some moderate cycling......

I'm pretty much in the same position although my last half marathon was sometime in June (and full in April) and my furthest distance since is 15k's. So if I would have entered, I would have been running on muscle memory.

However, Tumbleweed saved the day and is organising a Mine Dump ride, so the decision has been taken from my hands. :D

Bugger that, do the Wanderers or Old Parks time trials once a week or so and thats enough running for me.

Tried a run from the office in Houghton home in Olivedale once, 25kays give or take.

Managed fine, but cried in the shower afterwards while Carte Blanche reruns played on the telly.... Props to you, but y'all can keep your bloody marathon foot plodding wot wot!

Just needed to get that out :P

I thought you would say something like this. Must be all that training you did for the Capetown Challenge. By the way how was your weekend in Capetown ? Did you do a wine tasting tour ?

If ur training for IMBC or similar my answer would be NO, if ur training for IMSA then it is also NO.

It takes a while for the body to recover from 32km and Up and might compromise ur immune system, muscle recovery etc.

The one thing I have learnt is that these races that come up and we just wanna do it but it just messes with your training, best to look at the Calendar and your training plan and rate the Races as A, b, C. A races is IMBC/SA, B might be 5150 or 11 gLOBAL and C might be 94.7, this is an axample. Nothing comes in the way of your A race and this is what you RACE, and if there is a Race that fits in a Certain Phase of training then sure use it as TRAINING and not a race or just to test the body.

If the Tuff One fits into a plan then great but just to do it, to do it then if I were u I would reconsider.
