94.7 Single speed club

I didnt ride the 94.7 this year but I was cruising between Fourways and Craighall when a friend of mine spotted me, pulled over for a chat and then went on. Some spectators nearby where flabbergasted by his riding a singlespeed. Think next year I am gonna join the ss club - on my new project I am wanting.

Nice good going. So we can count you in for next year in the SS group.

for sure... hopefully on my road SS project I've been dreaming about.... now just to convince my mates to sort out SS for themselves!

My wife's so awesome - she told me that I can convert her bike to single speed and she'll give it a good attempt. I think I'll start her with a nice easy gear like 31-18 and see how she likes it!

Did the MTB event on my MTB SS, and the road event on a 'roadie' SS. Was great fun and enjoyed the heads being shaken as I was overtaken by other cyclists on the road event

our little 94.7 adventure

Me on a 60kg CHOC ice-cream Bike, gear Unknown, 16" wheels

My Bro @merida_man on my GT Peace 9er, gear 32:18 and running Cross+Marks

My mate @MattyEMD on his Niner EMD, Gear 32:18 and running Mountain/Race Kings

We Wanted to be the first SS only ice cream bike.

we got to Douglasdale in 2:28:35. and then disaster struck.

on that last steep little climb brfore you turn onto Douglasdale Dr my bro had to drop off cus of someone stopping in the middle of the road and the sudden extra stress through the drivetrain sheered the welds between the cog and axel and we lost all drive.

My race was done and i told the boys to go on without me but in true SS spirit they didnt wanna just leave me on the side of the road so we free-wheeled down to "the Corner House" and had a beer.

And it was during that beer that we had a great idea, phone the wives and get them to drop off a spare bike for me at the pub.

We waited for 1hr45min for our spare to arrive and then we where back in the race. so we decided to catch up to MTB Barbie and the girls ice cream bike and help them finish inside the cutoff. we caught them on the N14 and had a great ride with them to the finish.

Stats:

Ride time: 5:04:08

Elapsed Time: 7:27:25

Average before oops: about 18km/h

Alcohol: 4tequila, 4 beer, some crazy OJ stuff at the student tent, 1 jagger

I've started training for the 2012 94.7. I'm riding 39/17, downhill spinning is crazy... (Fun though)

Never done a race before, thought it could be a nice chalange to aim for.

Trust me, after 50km its not fun anymore. Having said that, I'm dumb enough to do it again sometime.
