I am just wary of 2nd hand as I have see what a MTB gets put through - how do I know what I am really getting if I buy via the Hub or even through a bike shop

If you buy here, normally it will be stated how many k's have been done on the chainset, tyres etc (all of which are expendable/serviceable). Frames generally last forever. Shocks and forks can be serviced. Other bits can (and will) be upgraded.

You can also expect to pay 50% of the new price of a year old MTB, and the assembled experts here on the hub are never shy to exercise opinions, but buying 2nd from bike shops or otherwise is going to be more risky. Also most of us have had very positive experiences doing business here. But you have to be patient.

Great thanks - I am having a rethink and will spend sometime on the hub and exercise patience as suggested - I am not in a rush

Recently there has been a number of top top end Spech Epics (2010 models nogals)on thehub at what I thought to be pretty fair prices, that kept on dropping at time went by..

Forget the "Value Brands" (they are like cheap chinese cars!), you will regret buying it in the future.

Go for the best! Specialized... and for a change they have a bike that offers great value!

Check out the new 2012 Specialized Camber Expert 29er - only sells for about R33'000!

BEST ALLROUND BIKE ON THE MARKET!!

There are a lot of us that dont have to prove ourselfs buy riding a Spescialized blingworks pimpjumper to impress anybody .The only differance of all aluminium framed bikes is the geometry of a frame. The componants are the same .There are a lot of very good value bike companies with proven geometry and light alu frames with good warranties and they have stock. You are soo wrong saying value brand are not worthy .Tell that to the rider on his anthem ,merida ,raleigh, scott ,GT,ktm ext that have just finished a hard 70km race which he completed because his lesser equipment lasted

I`ll rather ride a 30k Giant cause it will be the same or even better than a more expensive "premium brand" bike. The Giant Anthem 29er X0 is a great bike for R29k.

Kinda like buying a new car. We spend a lot of time in an attempt to justify these expensive toys... In the end the sums/facts will work out the way you want it to work out :)

I ride a specialized camber 29er and loving it, but it remains a personal choice.

Yup, honestly, for R25k you get a great frame, great fork, don't know how used the components are but XX, what more can you want??

Good wheels too!

All round great bike at a great price.

I say go for it.
