Argus MTB 52km

I am looking at doing the Argus MTB race (52km) for the first time next year and was wondering how tough this race is. Is it very technical?

It is invariably 50C in the shade,runs out of water and crowded....but ya nice to do both the mtb and the road

Yeah thats the plan. To do both the MTB and road race. I am travelling all the way down to Cape Town so might aswell make the most of it and ride both.

argus is a proper summer funride, a million people of which about 1000 can ride, so expect traffic, people that dont understand racing or etiquette, but hey sit back chill pedal, and make yourself a crapload of mates en route.

 

If you do that yeah its not a bad race at all. But you will hit traffic, as long as you go in with that mentality then you will have fun.

Somehow that extra 15km seems to make it very far.

Nothing very technical included last time I did it. Was really hot & dusty but no hassle with the crowd. I found that if I did the long Boschendal properly, I was a bit tired for the road Argus the following weekend. Perhaps I'm just too old & lazy or recover too slowly? Just keep recovery in mind.

Thanks I will keep it in mind. I did both the long route 94.7 and the road race and found the recovery ok. But the 50km MTB wasn't a very tough ride at all. So I am just trying to figure out if I will be able to do the same with the Argus. If the long route is 67km it might be pushing it a little though.

I did the argus mtb and argus this year. Mtb is easy, a few climbs with alot of traffic all over. Try and go fast to miss the mid day heat!!lol. I was ready for the argus the next week.
