Is this the lightest 29er in SA? 7.4kg, with Polar CS600X

Possibly - but how long will it last on the dusty rocky roads of SA?

Weight, money and strength(durability) - fine balance

Still is quite cool, would work better with a Lefty :)

I have put it through all kinds of terrain that I have encountered in 5 Cape Epics - handled it rather well, although my arms were somewhat tender after a 5 hour ride on rocky jeeptrack last week :)

With a carbon fork it means nothing

not really that light

Know of anything lighter?

I can probably bring it to under 7kg, but then I will have to sacrifice the XTR pedals for maybe Egg Beaters [don't like], the XTR chain for a Dura Ace chain and a XX cassette. The Tune saddle will we replaced by an AX Lightness next week, which will shave off another 38g.

I think he means you can't really compare it's weight with it running a carbon fork. compare apples with apples - put on a suspension fork and then we'll all rave about how it's the lightest 29'er MTB. I agree it doesn't really mean anything to me(weight wise) with it running a rigid fork

Isn't a mtb with a rigid fork a bit pointless? Sure, it is light, but so is a road bike, as pointed out by Big J.

Damn dude - if you did 5 Epics in Rigid mode then you are my new hero - I can't manage more than 70km before the blisters start forming...

Awesome wheels. Saw a bike at the Ride the Rhino this year with ax Lightness handlebars, stem and seatpost. Firtst time I saw AX stuff and researched it a bit. Damn fine stuff but pricey.

a

Where did you get those wheels and what did they set you back if I may ask? You obviously know your stuff, did you compare the wheels with a ENVE wheelset? Can one use carbon wheels as everyday wheels?

Can possibly shave a few more grams with a Hollowgram crank and SRAM parts.

Will you post the full specs please?
