Sorry for this hijack:

Patches -> it seems like you know a lot about these bikes. For a rider like me doing mostly trail riding, off-road tri’s, lots of MTB marathons and aiming for the longer stuff like Trans Baviaans etc, would you say an enduro/all mountain machine will be better suited?

I have heard that South African's just have an obsession with bikes that is actually more suited for XC. I don’t know what to make of it. I see you list the Zula as a marathon bike. What would you say is more suited for my type of riding?

Again, sorry to the OP for the hijack

I,m the OP and I don't mind the Hijack... in fact I won't show any signs of struggle or resistance to this Hi-jack

I wouldn't say I know a lot about Morewood bikes... I just have a great interest (being from a mech engineering background, as well as owning 2 of these proudly south african machines).

So to answer your question... from the sounds of it, a Zula would suit your kind of riding best.

The 2 new Enduro/AM machines have quite a bit of travel.

The Sukuma features 150mm travel and weighs in at 12.2kg (factory build). Whilst this is pretty light for an AM machine, the 150mm might be far more than needed for longer races. Personally it would be my pick over the Zula... but I like big butts bikes and I cannot lie!

The Jabula is an even bigger boned lady! 170mm travel (almost FR territory, but with a more AM geometry)... weight wise... 13.8kg (factory build). This is one capable bike... but again, not going to be ideal for the long races.

So yes... the Zula, although only sporting an XC-ish 100mm rear travel, has a slighly more relaxed geometry and when paired with a 120mm fork (quite a popular config) can prove to be a great trail/marathon machine! When it was first released a bike mag said "quite capable of winning the came epic).

So there you have it!

Hijack over, hope that helped ;)

Nope! Far from it! A while ago Morewoodkid mentioned that they had quite a few new things in the pipelines (as you can see from the link below)... and he also mentioned that they are focused in locally hand made bikes!

Well good thing that's only your opinion :P

Morewood bikes have some awesome new models added to their 2012 line-up... including the long awaited Sukuma.

The 2012 line-up:

- 2x Downhill: Makulu and Izimu

- 2x Freeride: Kalula and Zama

- 2x Enduro/All Mountain: Jabula and Sukuma

- 2x Hardtail XC: Kwela (29er) and Yebo (26er)

- 1x Marathon: Zula

Check them out here

Doesn't sound very dead to me... If anything they're looking strong as ever!

After looking at your link I agree with you - THose bikes are on Fire

Anyone know the (real) reason that PM left Morewood bikes?

He most probably got bored, shafted on a deal, or has something Awesome coming at PYGA which he couldnt/wouldnt do at Morewood.

He Should have called his new outfit PMB. Patrick Morewood Bikes. Also Pietermaritzburg. Or RMB. Real Morewood Bikes.

I've got 2 morewoods and I love them both. When we did our France trip in June 7 of us had Morewoods and they drew admiring looks wherever we went. They are highly rated bikes overseas.

Also have 2 that I love... plan to take one of them to France next year...

but yeah, as you say... in Europe they're hel in high regard. In fact I heard that there are more of the bigger morewoods (160mm travel and up) sold to europe than locally!

From the blog

"

Although it’s the end of a labour intensive process on the frames, this is really just the beginning for them. Now it’s on to testing and making sure they ride like we want them to. If they make everyone smile and clap like over excited seals at water-world, we’ll run them into production. And if not, it’s back to the drawing board, which is pretty fun too! The search for the ultimate ride is never over."

From what I can see from the pics they are already in production
