I hope someone can shed some light on this issue.

 

Last year I lost almost 10kg by just cycling a lot. I was sitting pretty between 82-83 kg's

 

This year I have actually picked up weight right up to 85 although I still cycle the same average amount of hours per week as I did last year this time.

 

The cherry on the cake is that I aim to take off two weeks over Christmas from cycling, which will mean at the very least that i will not loose any more weight and most probably will pick up some more over the festive season.

 

I want to weigh about 80 kgs if I can get my way but dont know how to achieve this.

 

I cut out white bread this year. I am eating small portions fairly often (around 5 times a day which includes apples and other fruits, and I do some other sport activities besides cycling as well.

 

Im 1.82 and according to the gym my fat percentage hovers around 17%. Last year it was around 15%

 

What to do to shed these extra few kg's of fat.  I must be doing something different but i dont know what.

Although its ideal to get a caliper test done (think that's what its called - any bio or dietician can do one), one can roughly estimate ideal bodyweight with the following formula:

 

Weight / (Length)squared.

 

Normally one should be between 20-25, but cyclists tend to be closer to 20/21 when in peak form. Its generally considered unhealthy to go below 18.5

This should help you to get a rough estimate, but if you are serious about it, see a bio or a dietician and get it right. I did this recently and now have a realistic goal I work towards.

 

To calculate your Basal Metabolic rate, the following link is quite handy:

 

 

Here's a good estimation from wikipedia re body fat percentages:

LOLLOL Unfortunately there are 2 down sides to that.

 

1.  If you never eat again.. well, we all know what happens then. Dead

2.  As soon as you start eating again, you are going to pick up double what you lost.

You can not train when you dont eat. You need all the energy you can get. So that is not an option.

 

Eat less, yes thats one option.

 

Eat correctly. that is the answer.

 

And by the way my BMI is 24.5. so that is in the good range, but i still need to loose the 5 kg's to get to 80kg's

Babe??? pfft. There is only one person that calls me Babe. and it aint you honey. Tongue. That book that i talked about earlier... that is a very good book. tells you what you can and can not eat before, during and after training. It even tells you what you can eat when you are not training. Very good investment.

I had 2 friends trying the Phedra cuts et al and it did not work for them.

 

I'd rather stay off the pills and powders and try and do it naturally.

 

That way i know i would be able to sustain the weight loss and not just see-saw my weight up and down with additives.

I think I'm gonna give the book a try.

But before I do I need to know that what is in there is not freely available on the internet anyway.

So if anyone has bought the book and thought afterwards that it is worth the money

I have the book, must say if you know about low and high GI foods and when they should be consumed in relation to exercise then there is not much new in the book.

 

It does give complete diets based on number of hours training etc but I hate trying to stick to a specific diet.

 

Personally I just try to achieve a good carb/protein balance with lots of fruit and vegetables and very little fat. Try for low GI carbs except for immediately after exercise when high GI is best. Lots of water and of course the total kj intake needs to match your exercise programme.

 

I recently upped my weekly training hours to about 14 and I find I can just about eat as much as I want of the right kind of foods.
