Every uphill is an investment in dishing out pain on the flats. How else are you going to stress your muscles to the point of getting stronger? Being heavy gives you a natural advantage in getting stronger when going uphill.

When I started league I weighed 92kg. A year later my peak power was 465 watts and I had lost 10kg.

I started at 108Kg's two years ago, and now at 96Kg's - 1.93m tall..... don't have a power meter so can't tell you what my output is.

Good grief, what an early start! Just last weekend I complained that the short route starts so very late in the heat and all (I'm riding with my kids) and now we're up at 6am before the hardcore racing snakes! I'm not sure if I can get the lazy teenagers awake enough at that hour to ride without falling asleep on the bike and crashing. Do you reckon I can feed them a Red Bull each with their oats for breakfast?

Safe ride out there guys. Weather is great here (read) overcast with a slight breeze in Wellington.

Actually, weather is so great, I slept it as it looked to be raining. Will have to go do some hill repeats later as punishment :whistling:

Was just looking at the time of your post and wondered what happened to your plan.....

Also slept in on account of the "possible rain". I'll just mark it down as a rest day

Sheeesh!!!!! What a race!!!!!.....that quick combination of Maritime Hill-Black Hill, and Ou Kaapse Weg is one to remember.

Just one more thing- I absolutely dislike that late start program, for whatever reason we started late, I don't buy it.

Great conditions for racing today after the heat waved week.

Thank you weather gods!

Dynamic race for me starting in D-E after being caught napping behind some dead wheels cresting over Slangkop.

When I saw the long string of riders about 30 metres ahead of me, I knew the pace was white hot. So, I woke up and try to bridge with two other riders. In the chase, one popped off through Misty Cliffs. Myself and rider D145, I think, gave up after burning quite a few matches.

From Scarborough to Maritime Squadron hill, it was a mix of good pace lining and, mostly, uncoordinated wheel rolling between 5-6 riders from C - E. There was quite a bit of frustration in this stretch and I was saving my energy for when I really needed it.

A baboon crossing over on the Smitswinkel ascent scattered and stunned us all and a freeze frame shot would see the baboon sandwiched by a passing Giant and Merida - it was close!!

I attempted a few breaks down Smitswinkel and past Simonstown golf course and no one was interested in a 'joint venture'. I sat back, chilled and prepared myself for the sharp edge of the course - the final 3 ascents.

My climbing rhythm over the final 20 minutes of hard yards to the white chalk felt lekka!

I had an awesome ride, not sure of position but it felt like we were flying.

Break up black hill and I missed it, catch them at Noordhoek with 4 other riders.

Little bumps from Noordhoek to Ou Kaapse separate the pack and 3 riders fall off.

Then we head up onto Ou Kaapse there's another break, my legs were dead from the chase and I just sat in in the group of 5.

Upped the tempo going up and didn't look back, led from 3km out, looked back on the last corner, and there was no-one there.

Was a great ride.
