If you are looking for something that will work in the gym and on the bike then you should look at the multi-sport polar watches.

The products you should probably look at are the CS300, RS800CX or RCX5. The RCX5 is the newest in the range but probably also the most expensive. As far a I know, the RS800 can be bought as a bundle with the speed and cadence sensors. GPS is an optional extra.

Just be aware that the speed and cadence sensors batteries cannot be changed DIY but have to be sent into polar. A real pain if you ask me and one of the reasons I haven't upgraded to the full polar bike setup. An alternative is to get a more basic polar (with download capability eg RS400) for the heart rate function and then get something like a Garmin or Bryton for your cycling information.

I have a polar cs300 and have no complaints. Works well on the bike, works well in the spinning class. If you're not too phased about getting a GPS this is a good option.

The only reason I'll get something else is to get a GPS on the bike, but for heart rate, timing and speed this is perfect.

I used to use polar too, also for discovery benefits, but the watches never seemd to last more than a year. Wasted more money on the watches than the value received back from discovery. I since started using Suunto and have not looked back

Never ever get the cs300 really crap.. I prefer the garmin. If you looking to get a polar my brother has a top of the range polar for cycling he wants to sell that is less than 2 months old as he also moved to garmin...

agree, the cs300 is one of the "kakest" things I have bought in my life. The amount of times I tried to transmit data via the echo-sound-thingamabob and it failing eventually made me trash it. Stupid bat watch. And its not like the cs300 was cheap and cheerfull.

Now have a garmin edge 500, not looking back. GPS rocks

Mmmm... I have the 725 Polar for well over 4 years now and not a single problem. It gets used every day.
