[Event] MTN National XCM #3 Sabie Driven By NISSAN

Allot harder than last year, not climbing wise, but terrain wise.

Definitely changing my 2X10 XT groupset from a 28-40 to a 24-38 for next year, definitely could have done a faster time with some lighter gears, but still happy with my time.

Why does the results page show only question marks???

Last time I did sabie was in 2008. Back then it was a hard race, but still enjoyable and fun so I made my way back there in 2012.

This year on the other hand wasn't enjoyable for the most part. Seems like the focus in the MTN series is to make races as hard as possible, even at the expense of fun and flowing riding conditions. Not complaining because it was too tough, just a little disappointed in driving 400km and spending a lot of money to take part in a race that has been designed with the sole purpose to tear an elite field apart.

Well done to Evans, Knox and George showing such great form with the Epic approaching...

hardest day on a mtb ever! very challenging in terms of fitness and skill.some of the best scenery you will find anywere - unfortunately you wont apreciate it! you finish this race and you are a MOUNTAINbiker. the quant town the vibe and superb organizing - will def. be back ( hopefully fitter)

Toughest day ever on a mountain bike. After 100kms, looking up and seeing that last waterpoint 100+ meters higher nearly killed me. heard that 2 canandian guys out here training for epic got the to same point at 100km's and threw in the towel, turned around and went back down the mountain.

I didnt expect it to be as tough as it was, but what I am happy that such extreme challenges are around to be conquered. Overall Tim, I must say that the event was really well organised, waterpoints were well stocked and manned and the route markers and marshalls were spot on.

Well done guys, I think you showed the world that SA can put on a world class event.

And I chose this year's event as my marathon debut. Finished the race, though. Flew down last couple of hills as if I didn't have brakes: Sunglasses too dirty to see and I didn't care much after 8hrs in the saddle. As for the orgs on my 7h50 start:  . got a 45 degrees C on my Polar sometime during the day. Was silly enough to get up Sunday and do the half.

Well done to the race organisers. Hardest Sabie route I have ever ridden, but by far the best route (75 and 40) I have ridden! Scenic, tough, fun, techincal. Proper mountain biking. This weekend reminds me of why I love mountain biking!

Brilliant course.... though but well worth the effort. Marshaling and route marking were perfect. Water points were well stocked.

Will be back next year...fitter and faster.

Thank you!

Come on guys stop moaning!

Yes it was a tough race; if you are looking for easy then there are MANY flat and fast road races you can go and enter.

If its too tough for you, enter an easier event.

I personally bled for 7hrs22 minutes, but I loved the fact that I had the opportunity to challenge myself on a course that eveything. Proper climbing, proper technical decents and single track and proper waterpoints and marshalling.

Race organisers, thumbs up from me!

Where can we find photos that was taken along the route of the riders?

I see the csharp website changed.

Pics were done by www.actionphoto.net but keep an eye on www.doitnow.co.za too, they had a photographer on course!

My comments from the other thread about this event

"Having never done the 'classic marathon' but a number of SabieX's and one Forest to Falls I had no idea what previous events were like, having said that it was clear it would be no 'walk in the park'!

It was tough but hey I just enjoyed being out in such a great environment, meeting/chatting to mates MarcFr, IdeJongh, Jarek, Martin, Gremlin and MtbBarbie (the highlight of anyones day for sure ;) )

Just thankful being fit/healthy to do something like this and the feeling of achievement after, I even took the time to look around at and appreciate the scenery (yes I did walk at times)

Organisation was excellent as was the route marking/marshalls and water points!

Fortunately due to another 'little' event last year it takes a lot more than that for me to lose my sense of humour :)

It got very hot on the climbs in the half marathon, and without a breeze it felt like a furnace at times. The ice cold water at the waterpoints was fantastic. my first Sabie, enjoyed it, but tough. could use more forest single track, but well organised as usual. Kids and missus enjoyed the fun ride too.

Great weekend in the Lowveld.
