Apparently 3 day MTB races are called stage races and events such the Epic and Cape Pioneer which more than 6 days are called multi-stage races. Have a look at the video's posted on youtube.....

If you google for it only the cape pioneer and epic comes up: http://www.google.co.za/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=multi+stage+race#pq=multi+stage+race&hl=en&cp=5&gs_id=3&xhr=t&q=multi+stage+mountain+bike+race&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&safe=off&source=hp&pbx=1&oq=multistage+race&aq=0b&aqi=g-b1&aql=&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=d1362685be459c5b&biw=1920&bih=955

and the point is???

Well, for one the Epic and Pioneer are much of a muchness just the Pioneer is a lot cheaper. The rest is for interest sake, the Garden route is much harder of the 3 day stage races than the others etc.

I've used the same parameters to give riders a "value comparasson" before. You can now add a 3rd dimention, price into the equasion and calculate value as a factor of price over km/meters climbed per km as an indicator of value.

I say indicator as there are intangable components such as braggin rights, prestige, actual route, etc that comes into the equasion.

The real point is that there are so many to choose from these days that value comparatives are inevitable.

That would be quite good to see

Maybe also add Jhb2C

The cost per km is quite interesting. The Garden route seems to be the best value for money of the 3 day stage races and then the Pioneer of the multi-day stage races....

Janneman, this is a very cool comparison, thanks a mill!

Remember that the GR does not include accomodation (unless you went for the premium package). Also, the distance and ellevation on my Garmin for the W2W is different to what you have in the comparison. The terrain in Knysna was smoother and I found the W2W tougher this year than last years GR.

Also looks like you used R2400 per person for the GR, which is not what I paid, was more this year.

Great race, you will enjoy it.
