Looks rad. Excellent colour combination.

And WOW that's a long steerer!

Ja, I'm going to fit a chin pad to it for those long, flat jeep track sections. :whistling:

OK, so after wrestling unsuccessfully the whole of Sunday to fit headset cups, the frame is going to the LBS today to get them pressed in.

Too late to help you but I had success fitting h/set using length of threaded rod, 2 x sections of 6 inch long wooden skirting board drilled off centre and 2 x Thule thumbnuts. Rod goes through headtube, set greased headset upper and lower bearings into position, followed by skirting board x2 with rod through drilled holes, finished with Thule thumbnuts. Can use washers if you want to spread load between wood and thumbnuts. Tighten thumbnuts until headset upper & lower bearings get snub against headtube. Using leverage created by offset skirting boards, keep headset bearings lined up straight as you tighten thumbnuts 1/4 turn at a time. Next thing, pop, in they go and tighten properly until bearings are in all the way. Remove thumbnuts et al, fit fork and away you go. Remember to return your thumbnuts to your Thule bike rack before needing to load your bike very early the next morning!

What h-bar are you running?

Looking sweet!

Its a Ragley Carnegie alloy bar. Borrowed it from Stretched@Birth. Initial impressions seem quite good.

It feels quite comfortable with the stem slammed to the headset, but I haven't taken it on dirt yet. I'll probably cut it with 20mm of adjustment, 10mm below the stem and 10mm above it and play around with it. Also not sure about the 80mm stem. It feels ok, but once again, not sure what it will feel like on the dirt.

Official debut will be at Rietvlei on Saturday.

The finished product.

Looking satisfied after her weekend debut at Rietvlei.

I might have to relook the gearing. I transferred the 32x18 I had on the 26", but its a much bigger gear on the 29". According to Sheldon Brown, my gain ratio has increased from 3.3 to 3.7, just by changing the wheels.

That's beautiful! I would just change the white grips wiff black grips to make it perfect B)

It is beautiful, even better in the flesh, erm, steel. Was nice to join Flippa for the debut.

Flippa, here's wishing you many happy miles. Now, when we going to tackle them hills at Thaba...?

I think the problem is your wheels, I would recommend selling them (to me...)

Other than the gearing...how does she go?

Like a dream. Its my first steel frame, my first 29er. There are one or two sections at Rietvlei that used to have the potential to catch me out on the 26er. I cleared them easily this time round. I still need to spend a lot more time riding, but I'm really enjoying the feel of the bike. Its handling is quite similar to the XTC I came off of, but the steel fork is a lot more forgiving than the carbon fork I was running before. Also, the Carnegie is great, just need to find the perfect setup. I've already dropped the stem 10mm and inverted it in preparation for this weekend.

White grips? Look again, those are the new Gray grips from ESI.
